Hello.

I published my second humor e-book.

And I used mini hamster photo as my e-book cover.

What do you think?

Is it charming enough to attract attention?

It was from PixaBay, not my own...

I wanted to upload this photo, but maybe it is impossible...

I'm answering because my curiosity finally got the best of me. I can't help but wonder how on earth you expect anyone to comment on your cover when you don't give the title or any kind of link. Or, am I missing something?

For what it's worth:

It's a hamster, but I don't understand the point of it. Also, if a photo is of an inherently prosaic subject, its ordinary nature has to be compensated by some measure of dynamism. BTW, it's only 12 pages.

I don't get it at all. It didn't make me chuckle. It made me stare at it to only wonder, "What the f*ck?" You need to give your cover more thought. I'm sure, you could think of something better. You need to, because this one just doesn't work. Not at all.

Your cover is an advertisement for your book. It is also a reflection of what the book is about (or is supposed to be). The hamster is cute, but it's not telling me this is a book about Daddy's funny stories.

Also, both your blurb and the book need to go through a native English speaker for editing. Right now it's difficult to glean the meaning of what you mean to say because of the language conversion barrier.

BTW, it's only 12 pages.

Ralph,

Your observation brings up one of my pet peeves. I wish everyone well no matter what. However, to me 12 pages is not a book, but a pamphlet at best. I know there are many writers who have success with such treatises and I'm glad for them, but the varying amounts of success are not being made with published "books," at least not to me.

So, I'm not deriding anyone's ability or good luck or whatever but just taking on a semantic disagreement, no deeper down-putting intended. :-(

What on earth is a 'peeps of humor'? Your blurb makes even less sense than your cover.

When I was still young and cheerful, we lived in China for a year while I an ESL/TEFL teacher. I had the absurd idea of going into education and believed that would get me some experience at classroom teaching. (It didn't take long to drop that notion.)

Paula's book looks like an assignment for high level students, maybe practice for TOEIC or TOEFL exams. Students are given themed assignments, (sports, politics, fashion, holidays, etc) this one possibly being nostalgia or family reminiscence. Often the student wants extra help from the teacher and asks for editing help so they could have it published as a short story in a magazine. Something like that makes them more competitive when looking for a management job with a foreign company. Once the teacher starts in with the red pencil, they're shocked at the number of changes. They've tossed in everything they've learned, like 'peeps', thinking it is commonly used, or misuse it because of an odd definition for a word in their electronic translator.

If you look at her previous threads, she seems obsessed with the little critters.

Well, they are cute. :P They just don't work as book covers unless you are talking about how to care for one.

I agree. 12 pages is for practice, not publishing. It's because of these people that our work becomes continually harder to find and less desirable, and our ranks continue to drop in spite of sales.

The cover on book #1 is kind of cute. The hampster on book #2 is ridiculous but not the funny kind. Both "books" are 12 pages long. If you combine them, you have a 24 page book, which is the minimum but long enough to make into an 8x5 paperback. And you can still use the first cover.

Well, it looks like the book is selling (at least from the rankings), so the cute hamster must be doing something right.
