Amazon said in question response that tags aren't necessarily searchable. Yet authors set tags and have people tag their books so they can be searched. (?)

I couldn't find my middle grade book, The House in Windward Leaves, under 9-12 children's fiction, fantasy. It came up in a general children's book search. So I set my tags at KDP for 9-12. Still, the book doesn't come up if I click the 9-12 children's search and fantasy.

I wonder how I can have my book searched under its age reference, 9-12? Or under middle grade? It comes up for the general children's book search with keyword but not with the age level.

Why don't books turn up in every tag?

I'm a little unsure about the question, are you referring to the tag words you listed (up to 7). They should be searchable, along as they are seperated by commas.

How did you get your book in the children's category for a specific age? I would love to know BC I can't figure it out, please tell :-)

Well, that's the problem. I put in new tags for my book to be searchable under 9-12. I didn't know how to categorize my book under the age group. So I tried to with tabs and that doesn't seem to have worked. Then there are keywords with Amazon. I might contact them to set up a keyword for the age group.

I don't understand how a book can be searchable by the age group. If you search Children's books, categories for age groups can be chosen at the top of the page. But how does one set their book's age group?

Both Keywords (Added in the edit book page of the KDP Bookshelf)

and

Tag words (Added on the book's Kindle Bookstore page) are searchable

If you tag "age 8"

then search for "age 8" it produces a "Hit" on a search

the more Hits you Gets the higher you book floats in the search pool

Get enough and your book floats to the top!

if you just search for Age 8, the tihing is in with 10,000 other books

if you have age 8 and unicorns and puppies and glasses and pirates and ghosts

and someone is looking for a book with all of these tearms, then it will be 1 in a very small pool!
