I thought I'd join in with the current "help with my cover" trend. Here's a (very, very) rough mock-up of my latest effort. I fully intend to change the font and make the blurring of the two images neater, don't worry! I am also aware that you can see the stock photo watermarks. What I'm really after is some feedback on the style, the colouring etc - I know the ties are hideous!! Basically stylistcally what do peeps think? Hit? Miss? Maybe? I was up for 6 hours last night trawling through stock photos (you have no idea how difficult it is to find a pic of gay men in suits that aren't wedding snaps!) and eventually I gave up on the "perfect" image that was in my head and settled for this one.
Is this a comtempory M/M romance? Presumably set in an office? I like it. It would tell me exactly what I'm getting. And honestly, I like the picture. The happiness really radiates from both men. Especially guy on the left.
I think the photo is absolutely perfect! If you want to change the colors of the ties you can do that in any editing software. There are free ones you can download like GIMP and Inkscape. All you have to do it select the ties and them play with the colors.
But the picture is awesome- lets the reader know exactly what they are in for - business type men - in a sexy pic!
I find GIMP to be completely counter-intuitive. I've worked with drafting software (AutoCAD type stuff) and mapping software and modeling software, but I feel like I need to actually take a class to figure out how to work the graphic design software. I guess AutoCAD is similar so I shouldn't be surprised. I mean, it's one thing to go in and add text or lighten the photo or add a border, but to actually manipulate the image and have it look good? I need a class for that.
yeah I had photoshop on a trial but I gave up on that, faaaaaar too complicated. I know people can do brilliant things with it, but I just...can't. The ties may prove to be beyond me, but I'm going to give it a go because that yellow one's just offensive!
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like it was easy; I know how intense it can be to learn photo editing when your excited about putting your next book live, lol.
I'm one of the book cover artists here/ indie writer and I do a lot of covers, if you are really having a tough time tonight, email me - Angelcakes1973@aol.com and I'll quickly change the color of the tie for you (no charge)
