Hey everyone,

I've just uploaded the teaser trailer for The Son of Perdition. Please go take a look and let me know what you think. I can make alterations, so if you have valid suggestions, I'll be open to implementing them.

Watch the video at *** TRAILER REMOVED *** (updated version at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0xiqjOy95A)

Thanks in advance!

Len

Before uploading, I sent the trailer to a friend of mine. He went ahead and built his own fan-trailer. This is what he did:

To my defense, he had a LOT more time to work on his than I had to work on mine. Oh, and he's more talented at these things than I am... ;)

Hi Len,

first I want to say that I think the film is good, but it could be great.

The first thing I would do would be to speed up the first minute to 30 seconds.

Then I would make the words clearer. Use a lighter colour and don’t spend precious time on fading words out. You want readers to read at a pace they normally would. If they are slowed down too much they get bored. To be honest, the only reason I watched to the end was I felt I should. If I had been looking for a book to read you would have lost me after max 20 seconds.

Secondly, I would prefer if you doubled the time of each photo clip in the second half of the film.

Me, I will not watch an ad for a book that is longer than a minute, but that is personal.

Maybe I should say that I liked the second film best, but I’m not sure it’s doing a better job at selling the book. Again, it was just a personal preference.

Please don’t be disheartened by this. As I said to begin with, you have a good film to start with and with just a little tweaking it could be great.

Good luck!

Hey dentoncook,

Very valid comments indeed. Thanks a mil :)

I'll see if I can trim it down to a minute while adding time to the pics at the end. Nothing like a good challenge, eh? ;)

I also believe a trailer (especially for a book!) should be as short and powerful as it possibly can. You're right about the text dragging in the beginning... perhaps take out about three of the smokey moon transitions... lemme play and we'll see what I can come up with.

Thanks again!

Len

Okay dentoncook,

I slashed the first minute down to 30 seconds, doubled the frame of each photo, and kept it to 1 minute. It stands at 1:02, but the last 15 seconds or so is just a static image.

You can watch the trailer at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0xiqjOy95A

So... lemme know what you think about the new version. Yay or nay?

Thanks again for your awesome feedback.

LOL @ dentoncook! I bet you're just saying so, but yeah, I kinda do like this one more than the first attempt. Have ideas in my head for MUCH better trailers, but I think that it's time to get The Incubus up before I spend more time on SoP.

Thanks again :) MUCH appreciated!
