The title of this thread may seem a little silly given that summer is approaching, but my suspicions are that sales are about to slow down significantly.

Between the second week of December and the third week of April, my sales have been fairly consistent. Last week though, they tanked to below 50% of even the worst sales week during that period.

Last year, I started out in May, which went quite well, but after that sales gradually declined until the start of December. That is why I fear winter is coming...

How are you feeling about the approaching summer months?

I'm kinda looking forward to sitting by the pool...

I get the feeling they'll be bad, too. I'm just hoping to get more work out to counteract it.

Same thing happened to me, Aman. I've been rocking along consistently since Dec/Jan and about a week or week-and-a-half ago, it tanked. I'm still selling something everyday, but it is at a snail's pace now.

WAIT A MINUTE!! My best sales months were June, July, and August last year. They were huge. April just kicked March's backside and should pass Feb. by tonight. I've had my first month with a thousand sales in the UK. Germany has also had the second best month so far. My borrows are the second best since the program started. Six more before the nights over and it will be the best.

All I'm trying to say is that it won't be as bad as you think. people will be out of school and have time to read on vacation. Just hang in there. Publish a new book to boost your others. I really believe it won't be so bad.

I suspect this may be due in part to Google's latest search algorithm update. They implemented an update a few weeks back to weed out sites that they deemed to be ranked due to link spam, and it tanked a lot of small mom and pop businesses.

If your book sales have been driven by blog traffic or rankings in Google search results, check your rankings to see if your blog or Amazon sales pages have dropped.

In the past, these updates have tended to work themselves out over time. Google usually tweaks their search algorithm updates and things go back to the way they were, in most cases.

April started out a little slow for me, but the past 5 days have been rocking.

I think it will pick up in summer

@Kate - sorry for the downer, I do hope I am wrong and this summer proves to be awesome for sales! :)

@susan - What is winter like down under?! I bet it isn't half as cold as it gets here in the UK!

@Saxon - I suspect you are right about new titles being the key - that is what I plan to work towards.

If you come out with a new book in the summer that people buy and it gets a good sales rank, you will sell a lot of books in thee summer. Sales are only bad if your sales ranks are bad.

I'm being a smug bitch, my new book is doing rather well. Only the second day but I'll take whatever I get ;-) I spent in excess of £200 on the cover image and I've made that back already, so now it's all going towards my hourly rate lol. I've decided I'm making my own luck during the slow months - next release planned for August!!

I thought maybe it was some kind of threat. They use the phrase, Winter is coming in Games of Thrones.

April was a great month for me -- until the last week when sales slowed to a crawl.

But if this "winter" turns out to be as mild as it was here in the Mid-Atlantic this year, I'll take it!

Hello Aman

Maybe not in the Winterless North (North Island of New Zealand), but heading south, it gets progressively colder through the central North Island ski fields to the South Island ski fields (probably as cold as the UK - or near as dammit!). We're sort of like a one stop weather shop!

Enjoy the sun

I'm wondering if my winter is not already here! I have around 30 titles on my bookshelf. I sell between 15 and 20 of those in any one month, with a total of around 100+ sales per month (i.e. 3+ per day). Yet I have not had a single sale since 28 April - this is now day 4 of my winter. My walls are resolutely beige.

Should I be panicking? Heading for warmer climes? Or is there some other explanation for my sales just stopping stone winter-cold dead?
