.... no answer from the email I sent a few days ago to the relevant department, seeking help.
Here's the thing:
I am based in the UK.
I get payments to me via cheque.
I have received my February payment for the Amazon.co.uk payments.
I have NOT received payment from Amazon.com (this total is over $800)
I have it down as 'cheque' for payment and I also have the correct address. Today, a fellow author has asked if I have sent off the required forms.
Had a quick look and to me it reads - they will send me my money less 30% for the IRS (Jeeeeeeeeesus..... wish I could get cash for doing nothing) Is this right? Or do they hold the whole amount until they receive more paperwork? I've been going through the forums and different help places but I can't find a simple, easy to understand answer
Also, if I do send this W8-BEN thing off.... do I then get 100% of the royalty payments? Had a look at that form, too, and it confused me to hell!
You should be getting a cheque for the 70%, regardless.
The paperwork is about applying the terms of the tax treaty, under which you are not subject to taxation on the same income in both countries. If the treaty is similar to the one with Canada, no U.S. tax is payable on royalties. Hence you would get your 100% and declare this as income in the U.K.
