For those of you who use a book designer for formatting, can you give me a ballpark figure of how much it costs? Any other info you can provide regarding content designing is appreciated.

There's quite a range. If you want to put your book up on the Kindle, and it's not a fixed layout book (like a comic book or illustrated book for children), you don't need much "design".

We have fairly competitive pricing, posted right on the site listed below. Others do some things slightly fancier and cost more.

Book designer? There is not much designing that goes on with Kindle Ebooks because it flows like copy in a web page. If you want pictures do it simple as in:

text (line break)
pic/jpeg (line break)
text (line break)

You can use tables and some structure but there are no guarantees for the flow and I've found simplicity in Ebooks works the best across the board. Good Luck.

as said at webpage, we charge a standard fee of $75 to format a book and that would include say up to 10 images.

coversareus

as an example of 115 images see

this cost $150

in this case we showed the author how to PREPARE his images to the Kindle rules and we inserted them. This method is explained in book2 below using pixlr.com to rework images on line

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the info. I am technically challenged and not sure I can convert my book to Kindle by myself.

You really need a formatter. And it matters (bigtime) who you pick.

I have scoured these forums for the best - people who show other people how to do things (people who taught ME for that matter!) I created a blog page with a list of editors, formatters, and other useful people from this forum.

Find a name you recognize on that list - and search the forums here for them. Easy to do. You'll see they all help folks. I don't have prices listed (yet) so you'll just have to ask.

Word of warning - while I don't have everyone listed (only been at it a week) I do have fairly many. There are BAD ones out there - no, those aren't listed. But if you email me - jokerette @ gmail . com - I'll share :)
