I put one of my erotica books in Select, ages ago, yet never did the free thing. While other titles under that pen name do very well, with one being on the top 100 for erotica for over a month - the title in Select had maybe one or two borrows during its time in the program (6 months because I failed to opt out) - and low sales.

**doesn't even have a sales rating, which usually means it hasn't 'sold' any copies recently**

Actually, I think it means it hasn't sold any copies EVER.

**Assuming you are in Select (since you didn’t deny it, but just said you didn’t give away free books) – what would be the reason to be in Select if you don’t intend to take advantage of the free promotions?**

We get two dollars or a bit more for every borrow, which is why I was in the program for several titles. (I have now opted out, though some of them don't expire until September.) I figure that sales are so bad on Amazon now that I will do as well or better selling them on Barnes & noble.

The Select program is a good deal except for one thing: your books show a price of 0.00 on the Amazon store. I think that must be a major turn-off. People generally don't trust giveaways, and those who try to get it for zero then discover that since they're not enrolled in the Prime program, they don't qualify, which must annoy them.

Oh come now, notjohn. You are smarter than that. The sales graph clearly shows a non-zero ranking (as mentioned, it takes amazon 12-24 hours to combooble your rank after it is free -- don't you remember that from when you gave your book away for free?). Checked this morning, just barely above #300,000. Sucks I know.

Then I remembered that is it summertime. What kind of ninny is buying flash cards in the summer?

Then I checked how they are doing versus some random book, like, say, the Feathers on the Wings of Love and Hate series; and yeah, these crappy flash cards are ranked higher than both of those books. Go figure.

Question.

And no, I'm not making some kind of point here. It's a genuine question.

If you just did a promo and your rankings are still over 300,000... How is this thread evidence that the promo is helping your sales?

You are doing a disservice to a writer you do not even know. Your stuff is ALL ranked very low, but none of your stuff is a novel or even can be called a book, so there is no way to compare your stuff to a real book anyway. My mentioning of your dismal ranking was NOT an attack, just fact. When you actually write a novel and it ranks at 1,000 or better, then you will be able to use your rankings as an example of how wonderfully freebies work. That is not an attack, just fact.

And to think that you keep calling others bullies. The other day you called a woman a moron.

I made that point and was accused of attacking him.

Thanks, scribblr, for pointing out again (it can't be said too many times for me) that just because a book has reached a high rating on the free list, that says NOTHING for the book!

Lots of people will grab anything that's free. How many of them actually go on and purchase that author's other books - that's the statistic I want to see. I don't give a tinker's dam about being loved because I've given away my hard work.

The market IS glutted with freebies. And I wish Amazon would use some words other than free sales to describe them.

Some of the agendas here are just so transparent and so boring... but I was wrong to respond to hate with hate.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

I think I was just a little bit too fired up from reading Young Dan and HORROR-able People this morning. If you ever want to read about defending yourself against bullying (be it bullying from parents, teachers, or students), then this is the book for you. Well done, Mr. Clyburn!

I tried to call a truce a loooong time ago, but you seem to have a deep hatred of anyone who disagrees with you. I like that guy (75), and hope you are not using his book for your own personal agenda.

Under 300,000 actually ; ) ... I have maybe 26 books under the pen name 'Kenny Dill'. I do not wish to share how many other books I have under different pen names, primarily due to the fact of how poorly ole Kenny (not to mention the once proud name of Dill) has been treated by the Tin Man, his minions, and just haters in general. If you think I am going to expose the rest of my business to non-sense like that, well, I just don't know what to say.

Think of Kenny Dill as a playground, a sandbox. A time for fun and exploration. This is where experiments are performed, and knowledge acquired.

p.s. I told daysoldier to go screw his/her/self yesterday, and he/she took it as a compliment, which it was. There can be only one explanation....

p.p.s. Big-Boy Pants-Power!

Adults do not attack people for no reason, and they do not try to ruin people's business out of childish hate.

so why would you repeatedly accuse my pen name of child molestation?

Never have! I once mentioned how so many teachers in the US are being arrested, but NEVER accused you of that! There was a coach just sent to prison for terrible acts. What does that have to do with you?

Your problem is not me, it's your own head. My participation in this thread had nothing to do with you or your problems. Why don't you live and let live? This all started simply because I was one of many who mentioned you are not supposed to spam this board. I have since asked KDP to remove their ban on spamming since they are not going to enforce it anyway, so everyone can spam their books here and not just you.

To Kenny & thetimucuan

Ya know guys - both Kenny and thetime - who either might be a guy or a gal -

Just want to say that I often enjoy both of your posts and contributions to the forum. I will confess I often wanna smack one or both of you - but I imagine there are plenty out there who wanna smack me.

Sometimes I agree with one of you - sometimes I disagree. I imagine I am not alone in feeling this way.

As much as I enjoy reading your posts, I sincerely hate watching you two tear each other apart.

:(
