Hi, I am trying to upload a book for the first time. I have done the cover and saved the content from Word to filtered web page, uploaded via Firefox, everything seems ok after a bit of tinkering, even the indents and the contents etc.. But everything is underlined - every word from beginning to end. How can I get rid of it please ? Please - keep it simple - bear of little brain ! Thanks.
Thanks so much for your reply. Sorry to be so dim but I don't know how to see the html file. I am using Windows 7 and when I save the word doc as a filtered web page none of the html instructions show up. (Actually, I've now discovered it's only up to the end of the first chapter that's underlined). Any advice on how I can see the html file complete with the tags ? Thanks again.
There is some evil bit of instruction in your Word
file that is causing this. If you are willing to look
at the html file, you will probably see one or more
tags that looks like this:
If you remove it or them, all should be well.
(Always work on a copy of your file in case you blow
The easiest way to examine an html file is in NotePad (assuming you have a Windows computer). You can only save a NotePad file as *.txt, but you can then use Windows Explorer to change the extension back to *.htm or *.html (they are the same thing).
I think people also use Word to edit html files, but I am not familiar with that. Probably you just open it as a web page, edit it, and save it as a web page.

sounds like you have a huge Table of Contents or url you did not close
send me the html and I will explain where you went wrong and how to fix
Thanks all for answers. I have now done away with the underlining by going back several steps and am uploading the corrected versions one at a time to see what's causing problems. Two issues I have right now are that the text is all aligned too far right - butting up against the right edge. And the table of contents is all over the place, no matter how good it looks when in word and filtered web page version. Advice gratefully received but please keep it simple ! Many thanks.
Wow, thanks. That is downloading now so I will get
your guide and hopefully by tonight will have no more
right margin or underline problems ! No pressure.
If you're seeing the text run up to the right margin in the online preview, understand that this is normal behavior. A margin on the left-hand side of the online preview window is indicative of a defect in your original formatting and should be corrected before publishing.
The online preview should look more or less like the attached screenshot.
Thanks for this. I think I have now managed to sort out the margins. In the html code I reduced the left margin parameters to 0cm from 2.85pt and it looks balanced and fine. HOWEVER, a problem I originally had, and had solved, has reappeared as a result. I don't want indented paragraphs because much of my book is comprised of sub-headings and these, on top of indented paras, look ridiculous. I had got rid of them by adjusting all paragraph margins to 0.1 in the original word format, but now I have changed the left margins - they're back, even though the 0.1 margins remain in the formatting. Would be grateful for your thoughts. Thanks.
