No, I think Amazon likes its authors. We're a huge money-maker for them. Anything that it does is in response to the market. As large companies go, Amazon seems to me more willing to listen and change than most others.

I can't see a reason why they would. The only argument that makes sense is if they feel all the indie authors are flooding the "shelves" with sub-par quality that is not only turning off readers, but driving them away. Otherwise, every sale we make is money for them.

I agree that they are trying and amenable.

I would propone that they are unfortunately understaffed.

Would you agree or disagree with that assumption?

Before you reply I'll give you a case in point.

And I forget her name.

The woman who wrote all of the Harry Potter Books.

The billionaire whose books were made into movies.

Do you think she got an advance from Amazon.com;

Or just has to put it out there, like everyone else.

Will it be hacked.

Sold for nothing.

She's a billionaire.

Think about it.

On the grave of my ancestors I know that Amazon gave me a publishing break where the old legacy (print) publishers would choke on their own spit laughing.

That's real food for thought. You think?

Judging by some of the junk I've come across of late Amazon seems to be encouraging everyone who can more or less put five words in a rough line to call themselves an author and start publishing.

Amazon.com wants to sell Kindles.

Amazon.com wants to sell Kindles to school systems (add up the numbers).

Copyrights were extended to 100 years, which is why you see 500,000 or more books over 100 years old with a price point of zero.

Which is why you also see your ranking dropping by the hundreds.

As one poster said - why buy the cow - when you can get the milk for free?

You had better be capable of 50 shades of grey;

But not on Amazon.

I agree with you.

And yesterday was yesterday.

You are right.

Dylan. Or you can call him Bob Zimmerman but it''s still Dylan anyway. Inspired by Woody Guthrie who would have turned 100 two days ago (if he wasn't already dead).

1. I'm going to stick with Amazon.com.
2. I'm going to opt-out of KDP Select ASAP.
3. See #1.
4. I am going to keep writing.
5. I like the new "Newbie" thread.
6. I like Sarge.
7. I wish Sarge would pull that pin (although I was wrong; he intimated it was given to a family member by a man named Adolph (aka Hitler); I'm still waiting to hear back from him on that, and it only occured to me later that they don't have pins - you have to twist them then throw them).
8. What was I saying?

9. See number 8.
10. See number 9.

My earlier speculation was spot on. You hit the tom-tom juice at night, every night. It shows. Most writer's drink but only a few can hold their booze. I'm a 'holder" of the feast.
