Here is a paste of the email I just got!

Hello,

We are happy to announce that the popular 70% royalty option is now available for sales to customers in India for titles enrolled in KDP Select. This royalty option is available for books sold from the new India Kindle Store, Kindle devices, and Kindle apps.

New features for authors and publishers in India include the ability to set prices specific for India, receive royalty payments in INR, and now earn up to 70% royalties when enrolled in KDP Select. For additional details, check out our Terms and Conditions:

Also, take a look at the 70% List Price Requirements:

I am in KDP Select at least until mid-November, so I went ahead and switched my pricing to the 70% tier. What the email doesn't tell you is that the price points for India are different, although if you drill down into the pricing link, you can see it.

Yes, I received that email. It all sounded good until I saw the Select part. Don't get me wrong, I think that Select is beneficial to some. When I had a couple of books in Select when it first started, I had sales on one title that rarely sold. I gave away around 800 on a free promo day and then sold copies throughout the next two months.

Actually I may consider it for the one title again, though not just because of the India inclusion. Three months is hard to commit to though and really there's no point if you do not offer a free promo to get the book out there and viewed by many.

Yes they must be getting hardup for select books. I got the same email, I think I'll opt out of all sales to forigen countrys. They don't pay until I get a 100 dollars worth and for the amount of sales, I'll be dead and gone. And the UK sales you get a lot of reads and returns. That's the only place I've had any returns, and I know they read them before they returned them. they dogeared the pages.

Please clarify that statement. I do not see anything anywhere that states there won't be a payout until a $100 threshold is reached.

Where do you see this???

I would consider this, but since amazon wants to hide the sales we get from india, how are we even supposed to calculate its benefit? Amazon wants it both ways because authors are too smart to sign up for their stupid freebie program.

Indeed this is becoming too smart, if you are not in KDP select you´ll get 70% all over the world but 35% in India.
I have no idea if there is a market for kindle in India, how many kindles have they bought?

However there is something good in the fact that you dont have to make 100$ or euros or UKp or whatever to get paid if you dont have a bank account and that these sales are part of the $ royalties.

You can see what Amazon is up to here - agree with the poster who said that they must be hard up for Select titles.

Dear Amazon - India is no different than any other market and when we sell a kindle book in India, we should be entitled to 70% like any other foreign market. So why have you made a special case of this one country?

Having been sat patiently waiting for my KDP Select option to run out, I'm damned if I'm going to tie myself up for another 3 months just for 70% on sales to India!

And does anyone know if there's an Author Central for India, considering that they seem determined to push it at every opportunity.

This is no criticism of Amazon but if they will separate the numbers and show me how many of my books have sold in India, then I might consider Select again.

I also saw the requirement for joining Kindle Select to get the 70% royalty in India, which I do not think is worth it. But when I went to one of my books, the Amazon.com royalty option had been changed (not by me) from 70% to 35% while all the Euro stores were still 70%! Then just from my looking at that, it said my book was not for sale and under "review" for 48 hours. What is with that?

The question that needs to be asked is where are they going with this? Will they eventually make it that you only get 70% if you sign up for select in all the countries?
