Seems to have been fixed now.

I wasn't around when it happened.

I hide my name for good reason, I write EROTICA (read: porn), and I do so under pen names.

Did this cause any issues? What have I missed?

It only caused issues for our favorite gang of trolls kubecki. Well, the main troll is attempting gather support from others with exposed names to take on Amazon over it, but the others do not play sock puppet and do not seem all that interested. Really that main troll's name was just another alias Amazon account, but an easily tracked one. Man she lives in a heck of a house - no doubt she is a devout Romney supporter... Sorry you missed it. I didn't click on your profile because you have not been offensive on this forum and I never considered you a sock puppet. The need to know was only in reference to sock puppet pals. :)

Folks ostensibly trying to sell books might want to ask themselves why having your real name exposed is such a problem.

Well I wouldn't be surprised if the name shown on my account wasn't my real one anyway.

I wasn't really worried about fellow KDP members seeing my name, I was primarily concerned that if the profile was indexed for my name, professional contacts could see my posts in which I admit I write filthy erotica!

Are you saying that they showed addresses as well?!!!! Now THAT would be a huge breach of privacy!!

Because we are Indie authors who don't have PR reps that are paid to keep things like our private lives, private.

The reason why an erotica writer would not want to expose their real name is precisely the same reason why a porn star creates a stage name.

Remember that many writers have real-world jobs and don't want their out of work activities to conflict with their professional duties.

Authors have used pen names for centuries, it isn't some sort of self-publishing phenomenon, even J K Rowling is going to be writing under a pen name.

As an "indie" author, one of the things you're supposed to be selling is yourself.

WOW, looks like I have accounts under TWO email addresses..... this little beauty has just been discovered, and based by my 'hidden' real name, this one WOULD have disclosed my real identity.

Strange....

That's better, my actual account..... feels better..... at least people will believe me when I say I've been publishing on Kindle for 16 months now when they accuse me of being a newbie, lol.

I disagree, I think that Indie books we are supposed to be selling our books not our name.

Yes your name becomes a brand, but it doesn't matter whether that's your real name or not, it's just a name.

Yeah, I guess I'd give the erotica writers a pass, though I think we should also ask ourselves why. You're gonna write erotica, you might as well own it.

I don't just write erotica though.

I also write non-fiction (see my second account, nonfictionman, NO books published under that though, that would be a terms of service breach).

If I write a technical guide telling people how to use Software Package 5.2, say Random Software Package For Stupid People, it would not be in my interests for readers to click on my name to see that I also publish Huge Big Rods 5 (made up title of course).

Seems obvious to me.

But the same would apply to J K Rowling if she decided to write a book Facebook For Dummies or something, hardly going to use her same name, it would tarnish her brand.

I understand why writers use pseudonyms. But unless you're writing as "anonymous" there usually isn't a problem with learning who owns all those pseudonyms (at least eventually). Now, if you're concerned about real life repercussions because of some of the things you write (and not because of a stupid threat on a message board) then I think then too, we need to ask ourselves why.

Nah, I just tracked an alias Amazon account for your troll pal to a real name. Nothing at all like your friend R.W. Peake advocated doing to me on that troll "editing" thread.

Vicky, my name is Mary, but my friends call me Katie. I even sign my post sometimes as Katie because that is how I am known. You know my full name because we were once friends, or so I thought. You also know I am not Stephanie Taylor, or rather Truth Hurts, as you have accused me of being. You ran an internet check on Miss Taylor and say she lives in Alabama which you know, because of our prior relationship, is where I live. You also know I am married and have children, which you also claim Miss Taylor has, so she must be me. We both live in Alabama, are married, and have children so we must be one in the same.

I have reported your accusations and ugly attacks on me and poor Miss Taylor to Amazon, and they are currently looking into it. I gave them Truth Hurt's information and asked them to also look into it to verify that I am, in fact, not him. Yet, with all that being repeatedly said on this forum, you insist on continuing your assault on my character by claiming I have multiple accounts, which we all know is against the rules. Furthermore, if you believe your accusations to be true, then why haven't you taken them to Amazon instead of making a fool out of yourself here by beating a dead horse. Clearly your objective is not the truth, but rather to make the other members think I have two accounts and do bad things with them.

As for me not wanting my entire name out here, well, it used to be, along with links to my books, but then people from this forum began to put ugly tags on my books, vote down my good reviews, and leave me bad reviews. That was when I changed my profile information to my first name only and my login to my one initial K, along with the year I was born. I've nothing to hide, but at the same time, I don't want or need the harassment, and Vicky, I have witnessed some pretty harsh harassment for others here at your hands.

And that is the story. Vicky has an axe to grind with me, which started with me not agreeing with her over her desire to go after one of the members here for spamming. I wouldn't do it, and now she is after me, and if she can defame me, she will.

This the truth. You all will have to decide if you believe it.

Katie

Oh, and it is not a Romney sigh in my front yard. It is a Ron Paul poster. I have said repeatedly here I am Libertarian. You know, it takes some nerve to use Google Earth or whatever you used to spy on my house.

Below is most of the quote. Unfortunately, the part about my yard sign had been edited out.
