Hi everybody,
I'm a UK citizen and I've just put my first book onto Amazon kindle. However, I'm a little confused as to how I get paid for sales in the US..

UK and EU sales seem quite happy to pay into my UK bank account in GBP but the US seems insistent that it either needs a US bank account (uh.. why?.. if Germany can do it why can't the US?) or they have to send me a cheque - once it's $100 or more (may never happen!) and then IN DOLLARS! What the...?

How do the American public pay me?
Anybody know?

Yes, I thought that might be the answer.
I suppose the question I sould have asked is:
'How do the American public pay me sensibly, and in a fashion in keeping with the 21st Century?' :)

Thanks anyway.

Very simple. Just persuade Parliament to petition the US to become the 51st state. North Carolina has no problem transferring money to South Carolina as members of the United States, any more than Germany and the UK as members of the European Union.

Ah well,
Here's hoping that my book attracts enough American dollars to trigger the cheque.

Simple when you put it like that.

But what a wonderful system Amazon have! They don’t pay until we hit $100 yet the majority of authors will never reach that figure. So, in other words, writers spend months writing books which Amazon sell and then get to keep 100% of the royalties…

It’s nothing short of genius.

You worded what I'd been thinking.
But this only seems to be the case in the US.
If we sell in Europe we get bank transfers after a much more reasonable watershed is reached.
The US, apparently, doesn't know how to do international bank transfers.
For the 'worlds most powerful country' they sure are backward in some areas.

I do agree. I have several books up on Kindle and have reached the $100 mark more than once, which come to me by cheque because I'm a Brit who lives in Spain. I do have a dollar account in Spain which they could pay into electronically but won't. Why? Most banks in the EU are trying to get rid of cheques. EFT would be so much easier for Amazon and for me.

best,

I am another one who is less than satisfied with amazon.com payments only being made by cheque or to a US $ bank account. I reside in Japan and have several kindle books for sale. I have a UK bank account and recently input the details to kindle and - hallelujah - received some money (GBP) via EFT for sales on amazon.co.uk made from about a year ago up to now.

How come Americans can receive amazon.co.uk sales revenue in their US bank accounts by EFT but it doesn't work the other way round for UK citizens? This is a lack of reciprocity and fairness.

Hmmm.
Some little dissatisfaction here, it seems.
Amazon US, please take note...

America is supposed to be a forward thinking country, not one that sets up one rule for us and one rule for the rest of the world.

I have a cousin living in the states with whom I have just spent a weekend when he came over to Blighty. His opinion of the US, as a citizen is that it is a very backward country in many respects and still largely unaware that the rest of the world exists or matters.

Please, US. Time to start proving him wrong...?

Aw, we know that it exists, and that China matters. India maybe. Brazil in the long run. The rest doesn't amount to a whole lot..

Do I detect a slightly peeved response?...
Sorry. I'm not trying to give offence to Americans in general.
I'm talking politically and economically, here - not personally.
