Very odd. I'd had a thread on GQ for months, "Where are my sales? here are some answers." It had gotten over 23,000 views. Today it's disappeared. The venerable "Newbies start here" thread, with nearly as many views, ha also disappeared. They were both there yesterday.

I posted a question on GQ wondering about this. The question has disappeared. Looks like somebody who's found the secret of getting rid of spam has decided to get rid of me while they're at it...

That's seriously disturbing. I can't help wondering how far thread removing will go now people have been told how to do it. :(

Perhaps someone saw the number of replies and decided it must be one of those promote your book threads. Helpful threads like that should stay put, even if people are too dense to read them before panicking about asking the question again. Someone did announce 'his' discovery yesterday, about how to remove spam, which I thought was amusing. I wonder if anyone ever reads the forums before posting to them. I am sure it will be back.

Oh, so that means it was okay to remove it?

Was it amusing that he thought it was 'his' discovery, when it was actually someone else's discovery? Or perhaps it's amusing that it's now widely known that people can remove threads if they choose to do so.

I think you know which I was referring to, if only by the fact that I put the 'his' in quotation marks. I think you have made your opinion about whether the removal of spam by any member is a good thing, and I have made mine clear. I spent 20 minutes this morning removing Arabic and body building spam, and since I have the same job on a pet forum of which I am a moderator, it is not a task I enjoy. I just thought it would be nice for everyone to wake to a nice, clean GQ forum. Obviously my efforts were not appreciated and I shall not bother in future.

Correction, I have made my opinion on forum members removing other forum members' threads well and truly clear. If you choose to misconstrue that as me objecting to Arabic and body building spam being removed, I'm afraid the phrase "deliberately obtuse" comes to mind.

Just to make myself clear, when I refer to forum members, I mean members of the community who participate in the community. In my mind, that excludes non-community “members” who register for the purpose of spamming with useless threads that are not KDP related.

I sincerely hope that is now fully understood.

I've noticed more than a few threads disappearing and reappearing. Both of the threads you mentioned are back in GQ now, at least for me. I'm assuming that threads marked as spam by forum members are put in a holding type situation, the admin reviews them and if they decide they're not spam they're dumped back into the forum.

I think Selena is right. It's a little disconcerting to have a whole long thread disappear, but at least the moderators seem to find it OK.

I agree your threads are really helpful, but I'm pleased to see the end of the squiggly stuff.
