Would someone please tell me if your books can appear on Goodreads without you joining them and listing them?
All my unedited books with the "old" cover are there without my permission.( I just happened to Google my name, and there it was) Also, someone purchased the Gresham Symphony in october 2014, returned it on the same day, gave it a 1* around the time of the listing of all my books on Goodreads.
Your kind help and advice would be most appreciated.

Anyone can add a book to Goodreads - author or not. How do you think all the books by dead authors get there. The Metadata may not always be right though. They don't have to ask thw author's permission. The book is not for sale there - it is a database of books and the buy links will go to Amazon etc. Also if the book has been for sale at any time with the old cover the cover stays - even if replaced as people will have shelved it with that cover.

You don't have to join. Although many people do and find it useful. You can have an author profile there. You can of course add the new cover and ask a librarian to amend the metadata if it is wrong. You can't do much about the bad review( sorry). People can review as they see fit on GR. Reviews are intended for readers not authors. Sadly there will always be someone who didn't like a book - be it Midsummer Night's Dream or Bob's Book. Other people may read and like it so it evens out in the end. Also GR reviews don't copy to Amazon so the review won't be there unless the reviewer added it. I tend to find with GR people review in a wide variety of ways and for totally different reasons.

There isn't much you can do. On the plus side - Goodreads will increase exposure of your book. If you do decide to join please read the FAQ and TOS carefully - some forums don't let anyone promote, some do in certain places and a certain level of behaviour is advised.

Hope this helps.

Yes. People can't buy them there, it's just a listing and reviewing service. If you join, you can add your own books. I did that, and somehow ended up with librarian privileges. I can't delete reviews or anything, but I don't need to. The 1* reviews say more about the reviewer than the book - personally, I think a few of them are trolling for overreactions from authors.

All my unedited books with the "old" cover are there without my permission.( I just happened to Google my name, and there it was) Also, someone purchased the Gresham Symphony in october 2014, returned it on the same day, gave it a 1* around the time of the listing of all my books on Goodreads.

That could be a coincidence, but as a member, you can at least replace the covers (or request they be replaced) and update any metadata as needed. Visibility is the most effective way to sell books (people need to know about them before they can buy), after all, and Goodreads is a big help with that.
