A friend of mine recently had her book banned, it was dark erotica. I have plans to write 2 stories that are also ark erotica but this now has me wondering if I should. I looked up the guidelines and they couldn't be more vague. Any ideas?

There is not limit to how explicit you can be, sex per se is not obscene under US law and so probably not what alarms Amazon. But established obscene topics (incest, underage) and any extremes in fetish or kink can get you banned. Most often it is the cover art and blurb that cause a book to be investigated. So that has to be constructed carefully.

The usual suspects for problems include:

Incest, sex with or among minors, sex with animals, sex with dead people (although the "un"-dead are usually ok), rape for titillation, scat

There may also be issues with very edgy topics such as breath play or blood sports, so, it all depends on what you mean by "dark".

Of greater concern however, is that you will need a good editor. You've got a major flaw in your title.

Now, please help a rather naïve pensioner here - There is obviously a letter missing from your question, but I cannot decide whether it should be 'too much' or 'to munch'? Given the subject matter, I am inclined to think it is the latter.

No necrophilia? Geez, that's a tragedy. There goes my explicit biography of Reggie Christy :)

Funny this subject came up now. I had no idea what necrophilia was until just the other day I partially watched a foreign movie about it out of curiosity. It blew my mind. It's a crazy world we live in.

The 'necro' bit should have been a clue :) Do you know who Reginald Christy was? Apparently he murdered the umpteen bodies they found under the floorboards and in the walls just so he could have sex with them. That is even crazier! I mean, get a job in a mortuary or undertakers ffs!

Never heard of that person. I guess it is a subject my brain has always filtered out. It just doesn't interest me. To each his own although.
But for some strange reason, it is now an Interesting subject.

It is actually Christie and yes I know who he is. 10 Rillington Place with Richard Attenborough playing Christie. Christie was a sick man.

John Reginald Halliday Christie was an English serial killer active in the forties and fifties. He operated out of 10 Rillington Place, which was the title of a film made about him starring Richard Attenborough. It was said that he was a necrophiliac who murdered to satisfy his appetites, but he was an abortionist back then when it was illegal, which is how he found a lot of his victims. The saddest part of his story, I think, is that he murdered his lodger and her baby and the husband, Timothy Evans was hanged for their murder. Later when it was discovered that Christie had buried all those bodies, it was too late for him. Ruth Rendell wrote a book called Thirteen Steps Down, about a young man who was obsessed with Christie. One of her best books, I think.

Wow, that's crazy in an interesting sort of way. Wasn't that about the same time Jack the Ripper was living?
There are so many people who have lived or are still living on this earth who should not have been born. One American guy come to mind. His name escapes me now. He killed people and ate them. Kept body parts in his freezer. Another one, named John Wayne Casey, or Gacy? lured his young male lovers to his house, then killed them and buried them under the house. There are so many more too.

I love great typos! "Ark Erotica" sounds like something Noah might have written, all those animals, two by two... And I must be getting old, since I had to look up "breath play." I'd heard of it (and even knew someone who practiced it), but never saw that phrase before. I have always thought Amazon ran books through software to filter for questionable books, but were then examined by humans, but I don't know so. The only clue I have is, when a dispute over the rights to my book Acts of Conscience came up, I eventually wound up talking to a real person, who agreed I owned the rights and Hachett did not.

Um, no. Jack the Ripper was not living in the 1940s or 50s.
