I've always taken the print option, but in my experience, Amazon's 1099 is always last to come. I usually get it a week or so into February, whereas all my other W-2's and 1099's arrive two weeks earlier. Perhaps the digital vision will be available somewhat sooner.
I am 99.9% sure Amazon does not have an option for get a 1099 electronically. I think people are getting confused by statements in the tax interview where you send your information electronically. It does not mean you will be getting your 1099 that way.
Here is what Amazon says about the forms, from their help section:
U.S. Publishers will have royalties earned in the prior tax year reported on the Form 1099-MISC. We issue these Forms on or before January 31 each year.
Non-U.S. Publishers will have U.S. source income (U.S., JP, CA, and IN Kindle Stores) reported annually on the IRS Form 1042-S. This form is an informational statement of your royalty amounts and any applicable withholding withheld during the prior tax year. We issue this form on or before March 15 each year.
For example, we report any royalties paid from January 1, 2014 through December 31, 2014 on either Form 1099-MISC issued in January 2015 to U.S. Publishers or Form 1042-S issued in March 2015 to Non-U.S. Publishers.
Probably this week or next. Companies have until Feb 2 to MAIL them.
I want it sent electronically.
I'm pretty sure Amazon doesn't do this. (Why, I don't know. The Treasury Department doesn't send out paper 1099s for notes & bonds in its Treasury Direct program. Not only that, but it doesn't feel called upon to tell you if a 1099 is available! You have to log in and find it for yourself.)

Does anyone know how many 1099 forms amazon will send? I got 3 today, but it doesn't add up to my royalties. There's one from amazon digital services, amazon media EU SARL, and amazon services europe. Should i be expecting more?
