My book is already uploaded to Kimdle, but it has a lot of strange symbols. A lot. A couple of readers have already complained about it. So I downloaded it, corrected it (I think) and tried to upload. It won't upload. i've tried doing it every different way I can think of (word converted to html, textedit converted to html, and even the original downloaded document, as I received it), and I always get this message:

Error code: ConversionGeneratedEmptyDoc Error message: ************************************* * Kindle Creator V6.01 build 41 * * Copyright Amazon.com 2003-2007 * ************************************* Error(core): Failed conversion to unicode. The resulting string may contain wrong characters. Er

for whatever it's worth, I'm using a Mac.

I robably won't be able to find this thread again, so it would help if you could send an answer to me by email: glenncheney@comcast.net.

Thank you very much.

glenn -

i suspect the problem is that the file is saved off with unicode formatting, which DTP (and the kindle) won't take. you need to save it off as windows western (latin-1)...

cheers,

That's the answer!

I used Word on the Mac, saved it by choosing "Save as Web Page (HTML)" in the Save As window, and also then clicked "Options" and under the Encoding tab chose "Windows Western."

Many thanks for the help.
