Initially I felt sorry for authors who strive to write so many pages when they can get away with less words. But I have realized that the big book promoters and the big magazines /newspapers /editors are allergic to short books. My longest book is 74 pages long so you can call it Almost Short My next book will have to be at least 103 or 153 pages long.

If you told the story in 7,000 words you would have to pad it with 93,000 useless words. It will look like a padded book and the reader will stop far short of even the 7,000 word mark. A story is finished when it's finished.

I agree, If you padded a 7K word book to 100 and sent it to an editor, he or she might would probably cross out all those extra useless words. Just make up a new story and expand on it until it no longer become interesting..

7000 words will get you about 30 pages and 30 cents on the new PPP.
It would be hard to squeeze in tens of thousands of useless worlds.
Write 10 more stories is the easiest way.

Yes!

A short story is not a novel, no matter how long it is.

Lincoln was once asked how long his legs were. "Long enough to reach the ground," said he, or something to that effect.

Not sure if it'll get you another 93,000 words, but if you're writing fiction you might want to work on character background.
