This makes no sense gldrummond ... its simply a computing glitch, it happens from time to time when major companies are updating their systems or what not. The sales are still recording and will be up there tomorrow. Def not a slow period ... that's ridiculous.
Considering the number of people complaining last month about their sales dropping, I don't think 'slow periods' are a ridiculous idea.
There is an ebb and flow, not always consistent, for sales of any product. Why should ebooks be different?
I know over the past three years, I've had several sales over a couple of days' time, and then had a week go by without any sales. Then had one or two pop up, or several happen. I've never assumed that those sales happened and it just took a week for Amazon to get around to letting me know about them.
In fact, I've purchased my own ebook just to see how long it takes to show up on my reports. Four hours, if anyone's interested. Not exactly 'real time', but certainly not shabby either, if you consider that traditionally published authors are only informed of their sales bi-annually.
While of course there can be issues like updating glitches, etc, I'm just saying that every time someone doesn't have their sales expectations met, it doesn't mean there have been sales and they're not being informed of them.
Which seems to be what most who post about their sales not being up to their personal snuff think each time a lack of sales happens.
It could actually be that there just weren't any sales for them during that period of time.
Actually, I think Halcyonpress is right and that sales have not been reported in at least twelve hours. The reason why I'm saying this is that only a day or two ago, I would've needed to sell at least twice as many copies as were reported last night to even maintain my current rank. Even during a slow period, it's highly unlikely that half the sales would keep one on the same rank.
I can only answer for myself, but my reports have not changed since yesterday evening, and given the volume of books that I sell, that is a statistical improbability. It is more likely the system is down for updating or having a "moment."
Yes, the current sales report is definitely "hung". I check the sales stats throughout the day, and know about how many sales there should be based on the current rankings of my books, so it's not just a slow period...

Same here, no sales since some time late last night.
