October was a little down for me, but I've had nothing new out for a while. But I had a new book on Nov 1 come out, and while the pre-orders hit on Oct 31, Nov 1 is doing very well.
While there is a degree of ebb and flow, I think, with regards to the time of year, I also think what you put out there and how Amazon markets it (New Book List and such) has a much bigger impact. The same books that were churning and burning for me two years ago barely make a blip on the screen now.
Since during the first few days of most months I got sick of seeing the same message on all of the Amazon countries in my reports page advising that there had been no activity, I solved that depressing problem by giving away a couple of my novels on the 1st of each month.
Strangely, November 1st this year has been very kind to me. I've reached over 1,000 pages read for the very first time since Amazon began the pages read system. In October I went for a solid 10 consecutive days of zero pages read.
All of my novels are in the Kindle Unlimited program. I have noticed that actual sales have plummeted since that new pages read system was presented. Last month I had only 3 sales (1 of which was my own purchase to ensure that my latest book was properly configured).
Best of luck for the rest of the month.
Donna, I do look at my reports on the first and second, but usually it's several days into the month before it's worth taking a screenshot.
In the good old days, before Select came to live with us, I always had sales when I logged on to the KDP on the first of the month, meaning I'd sold books between midnight and two a.m. Seattle time (I live on the right coast, and I get up early). That never happens now. It's the end of the day before I see anything. (I go to bed early, too.)
Actually, November is shaping up fairly well. But the same was true of September and October, sigh, and they didn't amount to a whole lot in the end.
Three sales, no pages read...not really that surprised as my stuff is getting a bit 'old' now (new book out mid-November, hurrah!) However, my rankings are all over the darn place in the last 3-4 days. A book with multiple sales plummetted, another one with only ONE sale soared.
One of my two books got 5 page reads. The other, zip. Yargh. Yet the 1st book in the series shows green after dismal red for the last several days, so maybe someone on KU downloaded it but hasn't started reading yet? Still not sure what actions give you "Green". Hard to keep watching the titles fall in the ranks despite my best promotion efforts.
