Dear author,
I think the real question should be NOT what kind person returns a .99 cent book, BUT what kind of author complains about a return of a .99 cent book?

I'm not one who entertains the notion that most sales and refunds are the result of accidental purchases. Its from my experience that, most purchasers who enter into this action know exactly what they are doing..

This was happening all too often with my series of Mini eBooks, which were selling for 99c each.

The series, about the geographical history of planet earth and the evolutionary diversification of all life throughout the different Eons and Periods in development, until the modern times is a 7 part mini eBook series.

At numerous times, mainly at the start of the month, all parts of the series had been purchased. It sometimes took up to 4-5 days. But, surely all parts in the series had been returned and refunded.

After this happen at numerous times, I removed part 2- 7 from Amazon.

Part 1 is still available from Amazon, but parts 2-7 have a note saying Not Available From Amazon.

As a result of this, Sales across all other platforms, mainly iBooks, Kobo and Barnes and Noble. Sales have skyrocketed for the entire eBook series.

I guess I've stirred up a lot of refunders out there
I have been so surprised at how almost hostile the responses have been to my inquiry
I was wondering if others found it suspicious
I do recognize that occasionally a purchase is made accidentally
like someone thinking a book is erotic, then finding out it is clean and wholesome
seeing a refund hurts almost as much as a malicious, bad review
it hurts your pride
I've seen refunds of my best books--it doesn't follow any order

I've had a few returns since January, the first time in four years of selling for Kindle. Frustrating, yes, but it happens.

I posted this question out of frustration--and, I'm sorry to say, I was, kind of, angry
someone demanded a refund of one of my most popular books--so, I looked for some insight here
thanks to many of you who shared their experiences--
I guess I've got a bit of growing up to do--get a thicker skin
as a baby boomer, all these years--I should get used to the oppressive competition--the crowded fields--the willingness to go where everybody else does--not making the team--getting cut--yes, I should stop whining
I'm lucky there is this crazy thing called ebooks--it's a new thing---since about 2010--so, again, I'm grateful for generous people who freely offered insights and shared their experiences---everything is new here it seems
I see that over 6 weeks I've only had 2 returns---$7 worth of sales in 3 months--so, maybe I should consider myself fortunate--I have no idea, really, how close to the bottom of the barrel I am, though the glimpse I get from that "Author" sales rank thing makes me not too scintillated by my location

thanks,
oh

ps--to the hundreds of thousands of writers ahead of me on the sales rank--I salute you--well done!
I will now go back to my most recent plan--selling apples
teachers, please, please, teach kids that all writers do not spend their lives traveling the world, having adventures, and being adored by millions

Most likely an accidental purchase. Very easy error to make with tablets/phones and what not. If your book was bad, they will review it and say so.

I recently accidentally clicked auto buy on a 99-cent'er...and asked for a refund. That does not make me cheap. I have also asked for a refund on a 99 cent'er that was poorly edited and formatted. That also does not make me cheap.

No, no, no -- that's not what happened! One doesn't DEMAND a refund. One simply gets a refund. It's no big deal, and there are dozens of reasons why one might do so.

It's like the HATERS we are forever reading about on these forums. There are no HATERS. There are only people who don't worship the ground we walk on, and there are dozens of reasons why THAT might be so.

Good luck! -- NJ

Do you mean to tell me there are people out there who don't worship me? You have just ruined my new year! :)

As to the question, which btw is nearly a year old, perhaps whoever clicked on the buy now thingy realised they had run out of cat food and the cat was more important?
