Words in my book (htm) disappear off the right side of the page

I wrote a book in MS Word. I saved it as HTM. It did not give me the option of HTML. Maybe they are the same thing, I'm not techie enough to know.
This is my first book and I am really struggling with this.

When I uploaded it and then previewed it, two or three words of each line disappear off the right side of the page. Plus I noticed that the page numbers in the Table of Contents have disappeared. They probably went in the same bit bucket as the words.

Is this a problem with the margins?
How do I reset those margins?
In the Word doc before I save it as htm? Or where?
And how should the margins be set?
And how do I remove the htm file that I uploaded so I can re-upload a new one? Hopefully, there's a way to delete the one I uploaded.

Thanks for your help, Carole

I'm assuming you're talking about an ebook. Lately you don't have to convert a Word file to html, so go back to your original Word file.

Did you by any chance create a pdf? If so that could be part of your problem. (If you didn't, erase the word pdf from your brain.)

Don't try to "set" anything in Word (like margins). Just use the defaults. All that will count is the flowing text. Also don't use a return except at the end of a paragraph. And ebooks don't have page numbers.

As long as you didn't publish, it's easy to try again. Go back to your original Word file, fiddle with it if my above suggestions are relevant, and upload it straight. Preview. See if it looks better. You can always keep uploading new files where you uploaded before, and each new one overwrites the old. Just don't hit Publish until the preview looks just right.

They are the same thing: HyperText Markup Language. The L had to be dropped in the days of DOS operating systems, because a DOS extension could only be three letters.

This is my first book and I am really struggling with this.

We all struggled with the first book, except the optimistic Wordsters who just throw a file at the KDP, let it fall off, and hope it looks great. It usually does, because of a phenomenon known as "confirmation bias." (Confirmation bias is why our grandchildren are all beautiful and talented beyond belief, and why the children in Lake Woebegone are all above average.)

C Dale's advice (as usual) is all worth following.

As said by the first people who commented, eBooks don't have page numbers.
This is because they resize to fit each screen.

Now, to fix your formatting issues in Word:

1. Open your document in Word
2. Click the Office/File button
3. Point to Save As
4. Locate and click Other formats
5. Expand the Save as type drop down menu
6. Find and select *Web Page, Filtered (*htm, html)*.
7. Click Save (A warning will come up, click Yes).

If your document has pictures, you will have other files in the folder. That is, your original Word document, plus one more html file, and a folder that contains the pictures.
Zip the html file together with the folder that contains the pictures, and upload it as a single file. This will fix any formatting issues.

I do this even if I don't have pictures in the book, just for a quality conversion to Kindle.

What is this elomiry?

Sorry I can't read it.
Is it a reply to who, and why did you use Arabic?
It seems there is a place for Arabic in the forum, so kindly use that.

Carole, there's absolutely no point in saving a Word doc as html unless you are going to edit the html. Uploading it in a different format will change nothing, especially if it has no images.

What I would do is run that Word doc through Word2CleanHtml dot com online, open the resulting html file in Sigil, and tweak it there as needed. Takes some learning, but easiest in the long term. You can get the latest version at https://github.com/Sigil-Ebook/Sigil/releases.

Greetings to you, NJ. It seems I'm learning something new here from this post quoted above.
I can't edit my file when I save it as an html, and you seem to give me a better option.
I have been updating my books from time to time, but only covers update quickly in my Kindle for PC, and even on my Kindle reader on my phone.

Now, if I don't edit the html after saving, does it mean the KDP system still remembers the old file instead of the new?
I think I need some light here, if you can.
