Amazon is stealing my royalties for two years

I received a letter from Amazon Digital Services, Escheatment Team, in August 2016, which told me that I had not cashed two checks for royalties for 2012 and 2013 and that I needed to respond to them by October 2016 or they would have to send these amounts to my state's unclaimed property agency. I sent it back well before the deadline, on August 25, 2016, but have NEVER heard anything back from them about it. I checked with my state's unclaimed property and there is nothing there under my name. I have contacted them numerous times, through the Amazon website, by telephone and by mail, but have heard nothing. I think I have no other option but to file a claim in King County against Amazon for these payments. Amazon is basically stealing from me at this point and I don't think I have any other option other than to initiate legal action against them. Any advice?

Yeah, use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page to contact KDP and ask for an update about your 2012 and 2013 royalty payments you were contacted about.

If you didn't cash the checks, that's not Amazon's fault. If you didn't receive the checks, that's not Amazon's fault, but the postal service's (or yours, if your mailing information is incorrect).

Amazon's trying to get your money to you, or no one would've bothered contacting you in the first place.

Are you writing, emailing, or telephoning the contact given in that letter?

I have to say that of the thousands or tens of thousands of complaints I've seen on these forums in the past nine years, yours is one of a kind. Are you sure the letter was genuine?

The Contact Us option below won't work if you aren't using the email address of a KDP account. That's worth checking.

Otherwise, sure, file a complaint. How much are the checks for? (I think you'd need that information.)

Good luck! -- NJ

I'll admit I'm curious how the OP didn't realize s/he wasn't paid for whatever time period during those 2 years.

I experienced the same thing with one or two sales . I didn't get an email notification like I did in the past and when I called to ask about the girl on the phone had no information. My suggestion would be to use another platform like sellfy or selz .com . Thank God you found out

Kdp support doesn't have phone assistance so I'd you rang the customer line then no they won't know.

Check your spam filter. Also it's up to you to check your payment, sales and account. That's what the reports are for

There are no email notifications of sales from Amazon. Customer service you reach by phone is for customers. They have no idea what KDP is or how any of it works. We aren't customers. Use the Contact Us link below, from you account email address. Ask for someone to review the issue, and keep responding to the email reply, not sending new emails.

Other platforms like the two you mention are worthless for selling books. Are you getting something for coming to Amazon's forums and spamming links to would-be competitor sites?

No one at Amazon is stealing from anyone. If you don't learn how to respond to emails and to keep up with your business, then that's on you. They tried to get a check out to this person (who, being in the US should just get EFT set up and have a deposit 60 days after the month they earn money), and something went wrong. It likely wasn't on Amazon's end.
