Hello,
Can anyone out there tell me if I can add background music to my ebooks? I know I can on the iBooks store. Just wondering when this might be available? I did send contact us and all I received was an advertisement about Kindle direct publishing talking about paperbacks with KDPs new beta feature. This doesn't answer my question at all. All I can afford is to do digital ebooks, so added music that my husband composes is such a great feature, especially for young children. I wanted to share it with the Amazon World, because not everyone has an iPhone.
Thank You

Any response would be greatly appreciated.

You can produce audio books through a company called ACX. There is a link in the bottom right hand corner of your bookshelf page. I suggest contact them and ask if background music can be added. However, they have very strict rules on recording quality - if you are recording using a microphone you will need to spend several hundred $/£ or whatever is your local currency to get the right equipment plus you will probably need to spend at least the same again getting sound proofing and sound insulation fitted - or you could use a recording studio.
An alternative would be to have your own website with say mp3 files folk could download and play on their phone/tablet while reading the book.
But you mention the cost of creating a paperback - there is no upfront cost - it is print on demand system. There is the new KDP Print which is not well regarded on here although some, including myself, have used it succesfully. The recommended route is to use Createspace - another Amazon company.

One issue would be what background music you were using. There are licensing fees for most music, because composers' work is copyrighted just as authors' work is.

There are millions--millions--of people who don't have iPhones, and there are millions of people who have eReaders that do NOT have the ability to play music, other than through a rather tinny speaker.

If you want to create an app, that will play music, you can do that. However, for an Amazon eBook, as a self-publisher, you cannot embed music, not at this time. Or, to be clear, any type of audiofile.

Nor can you embed videos.

What you CAN do is embed links to your spouse's music, hosted wherever. On your own server, or some cloud site or...? That allows the individual to listen to the music when they wish.

That's what most people do; they simply use links for video or audio content. When you think about it, it's not really that different, whether someone clicks a link, and clicks "play," or clicks the "play" link in the device.

Hopefully that helps.

Can I Have My Ebooks With Music?

My wife and I with two other American couples were in a fish restaurant in London. As the waiter hovered over her, my wife said: "May I have ...." (something or other).

The waiter said: "My dear, you may have anything you would like!"

She doesn't often get taken to restaurants like that!

Good luck! -- NJ
