Drama, intrigue, politics, erotica, romance. Are Americans soaking all this up instead of switching on their kindle?

No. Sales fluctuate for all sorta of reasons but not because people are doing nothing but watching the Trump show.

I have never seen it so slow with both paperbacks and Kindle sales. It is horrid.
I have a hunch there are problems going on at the 'zon' and things are not registering.

That might explain why my UK sales have flatlined this month, after seeing nice growth for the previous 3 months. I suspect even the Queen gets a chuckle out of the daily reality TV show to end all reality TV shows..."Those poor Americans! They should have remained subjects of the Crown."

I've wondered the same thing.

I've wondered that, too, and have arranged with friends for the occasional test purchase, just to see if the reporting mechanisms still work. So far I have -not- found anything amiss.

I suspect it has to do with the now 4 million plus - and counting - ebooks alone available from self-publishers, along with the increasing number of paperbacks from them, rather than from any problem with Amazon in registering or reporting sales.

That, and weak or ineffective marketing by most self-publishers - when there is even any of that at all..

The Democrats are still pissed that they lost the election, so they are boycotting reading.
The Republicans don't live in right-to-read states, so they are prevented from reading.
Considering the alternative facts, it all makes a great deal of sense. Either get with the program or leave.

I think it is more of a zon problem - maybe along with early spring in some areas. I have a history with all the books I have on and with what has been happening with sales, it goes beyond what you noted.

I think it's because the Sun is beginning to enter Pisces, indicating that something fishy is going on. Either that, or everyone's so tanked out with politics at the moment they've decided to go to bed early.

Oh, thanks a lot, Resteasy. Now I'm singing "Age of Aquarius" in my mind and can't get it out of there!

Well at the time it was meant to be the age of enlightenment dawning. Think Aquarius took one look, groaned, and sunk again. Couldn't blame the poor sap. Pass the dutchie on the left hand side. Now if you know that tune, it'll stay in your head for days.

And now you hit me with Musical Youth? Isn't that a weapon against the Geneva Convention???

I doubt it. Simply because your sales (or anyone's) have declined, even significantly, is not evidence that there is a problem with Amazon's reporting. Nor does it lead to any kind of logical assumption - as opposed to an emotional one - of the same.

As Joseph points out above, none of his tests have ever indicated such. Or mine. Or anyone else's. Fact, in the several years I have been here, numerous people whose sales were declining at different times, have made such a leap - without a one of them ever offering a single provable incident to back that up, rather simply their emotion or belief.
