So we come to the last month of 2011 and what could very well be our most profitable month of the year.

How is everyone preparing for pre and post Christmas sales?

I've got a couple of new releases lined up under a new pseudonym and I'm fascinated to see how they take off. It will also be first attempt at an ongoing series, so I am intrigued to see what effect that has on sales.

As for my current titles, I am going to try and spread the word about these works through my blog and Twitter. But I am also hoping that word of mouth has a decent impact on sales as well. In terms of a seasonal specific strategy, I have lowered the price of my best selling book from $4.99 to $2.99 in the hope it attracts more readers.

I haven't even thought about it! released a new book on the 19th nov, won't be releasing anything else this year. just keeping plugging away at the ones I've got I think. I've got a lot of traffic to my blog this last month so I'm hoping to build on that as an advertising stream. not doing badly on goodreads either (except for 1 book, which just got shelved by a 'book nookie' group. it's a book about asexuality - i.e. NOT having sex. had a flood of 1-3* reviews in the last day - boo hiss). sales have been up the last 2 months so I'm hoping that they'll keep growing this month. that's possible, right???

keep us informed how you're doing with your new releases, we could all use the inspiration!!

Working away at a children's book. How about that, I hope to release a science fiction book within the next few months, an illustrated children's book of short stories, and I'm editing some supernatural stories as well.

Is that too much at once? maybe.

I'm considering a post-Christmas sale for all of January to nab the people who got Kindles as presents. I also plan to have at least one short story collection out by then at 99 cents to attract more readers and hopefully get some cross-sales with my novel. If I have time I'll also have another novel out by then. It's done, but needs editing and formatting.
In the meantime I'll be plugging away at blogging, guest blogging, and sending out copies for review.

It is fantastic to see the varying plans each author is employing. May December be kind to all of us...I'll definitely stay in touch and let everyone know how my new strategy works out this December!

P.S. Has anyone picked up an Advent Calendar?!

So if Amazon decides to put your book on sale for 99 cents (not price matching but as a special) it also reduces your royalty to 35% instead of 70%?

I hope to have the sequel to Big Lake out, and to replace the cover on Big Lake. Once the sequel is published, I've got other book projects I want to get started on. And of course, the usual promotion I've done all along.

To announce my December strategy I must call on that old saw: If it ain't broke-Don't fix it. If marketing and social networking were an alcoholic beverage, my shot glass would be a pinky thimble.
I'm very satisfied with my numbers on two of the books, but need to figure out something for the other. I'm hoping the second in the series will help it along. That seems to be the consensus of a lot of you folks here.

I have a new book coming out next week... and I plan to either date a super model or break up a hot actress's marriage to get on TV so that I can plug my new book. Worst case scenario - I get pulled out of my trailer in my underpants on COPS! again, but this time I plug my book.

Lisa: thanks for the reminder! it does not reduce the royalties! So I can recalculate those earnings at 70 cents now instead! Thanks for the reminder. I did up the price of Foreclosed anyway and it hasn't slowed sales on that one, so that's encouraging.

@Bill--man! Can't believe you missed a great chance like that! maybe it's best if you get underpants with your book cover printed on them...that could be useful for all manner of reality tv purposes.

Yeah Bill. You never know where you might make a sale. Several years ago, when I came out with my first book, I was in the delivery room with my daughter. I was right behind the catcher and in between my daughter's screams I was hawking my book to the delivery staff. My daughter called me to the head of her bed and with the strength of Zeus grabbed me by the front of my shirt, pulled me down until our noses touched. and said, "If you don't shut up about that &^#^&*% book I'm going to jump up out of here and kick your &^#^&*% .
OUTCOME: My grandson was born and I sold three copies.
You do what you have to do.

I'm focusing most of my marketing for this month (and last) on my two holiday humor books. For how I market see the blog post at http://kirklandatlarge.blogspot.com/2011/11/five-books-near-top-of-kindle-best.html

I plan to reduce the price of two of my books for two weeks starting December 25.
