To my understanding, the payment method for KDP when direct deposit is chosen is that you're paid every three months, and it's for the three months prior to the previous three months. In this case, I was to be paid at the end of March or in early April for October, November, and December. As it happens, those were my first three months of being a self-published author, and as such only made about $4.17 CAD. I have not received the money in my bank account yet. Is it perhaps a similar situation to CreateSpace? Due to being in Canada, I can't get a typical direct deposit payment on the regular, so I must wait until $100USD is amassed? $4.17 isn't a big deal but I figure I may as well address the issue right off the hop. Hopefully, I'll be able to get the matter fixed or at least receive an explanation. Thanks for your time.

Royalties are paid by the month but they are always paid 60 days after end of the month in which the royalties were earned. In other words royalties earned in January will be received at the end of March. I suggest you read the FAQs about payments/royalties. You can find a list of FAQs on the left side of this page: https://kdp.amazon.com/help/topic/A3NTX9NCJD3D5X

There is also a thread in the Payment Issues Forum called **Know Your Payments - New Improved** It is almost always on the first page of the list of threads in that form.

Payments and royalties are also covered in detail in the contract you have with KDP (see KDP Terms and Conditions at the bottom of this page).

Thanks, but wow, could have sworn that it was a 3-month thing. Pretty sure I made a whole lot of nothing in January so no worries there but now I'm curious about the money I might have made in October, November, and December. I don't think I signed up for the EFT thing until recently, before that it likely would have been cheque which means $100 threshold. I've only made perhaps $50CAD in total between CreateSpace paperback and Kindle eReader/KENP. It does say that my $4.17 is PAID, however like I said it's not shown up yet. They say I should contact my bank to discuss verification or some such thing so I guess that's my next plan of action. Thanks for the advice and such! Also, what a last name. God help whoever doesn't properly thank you when help is provided ;P

If you signed up for EFT in March, my understanding is that any money owed from before you signed up would be paid 60 days after the end of that month, i.e. end of May. If however your big $4.17 says "paid" in the Payments Report, clearly they tried to pay it. Use the Contact link at lower right to contact KDP. Even though this amount is small, you don't want future payments going astray.

Note that CS and KDP pay completely separately. Also, the different national Amazons pay separately. So it's best to get EFT rather than a check if you can, or you may be waiting a long time on some countries to reach $100. Good luck!

You're welcome. I prefer to believe my last name comes from the name of a cute little bird called the brown thrasher. It doesn't really, of course. It comes from a verb meaning to beat or thrash, but it wasn't used to mean "beat people up," it was a variant spelling of thresh, which has something to do with removing grains from plants, an agricultural term. I still like the birdie story best. I did have one book reviewer comment that Thrasher was a good name for a mystery writer. The worst thing about having Thrasher as a last name was putting up with junior high/high school kids who thought calling me Trasher was hysterically funny. It's no longer my last name but I used it on my books because my legal name is hard for people to spell or pronounce correctly. Thrasher is fairly memorable and easy to spell. Although, on the French edition of Charlie's Bones, the publisher spelled my name Trasher. I don't know if it was simply a mistake or if they decided to "translate" it since "th" is always pronounced "t" in French.. The title was also translated oddly: instead of just Charlie's Bones it's T'as d'beaux os, Charlie, which means You Have Good Bones, Charlie.

Well, I am rattling on and on, aren't I? Anything to keep from working on my work in progress, which is slowly driving me crazy. Well, crazier.

Interesting stuff about the name, and I understand the historical bit. Easy to understand that 'thrashing' originated from a profession or job like so many others. Thatcher, Fletcher, Baker, and so on. Even Smith probably originated from blacksmiths. I'm procrastinating from my writing as well; wrote in a potential backstory for a new character of sorts but don't know what to do with it now that I have a chance to include it.

I know about how CS and KDP are separate, thanks. I think it's going to be QUITE some time before I get my first cheque from CreateSpace, but that's ok. I contacted KDP or whatever, and will be contacting my bank eventually to make sure they've got everything set up on their end. That's exactly the thinking I was having though; $4.17 isn't much but nip it in the bud early if there's issues so that once I get my larger cheques they'll be finding their way to my bank account with ease. I'm especially looking forward to getting paid for March. I think via KDP I've made about $40 that month or so. Considering I've been a self-published author for less than 6 months so far, I'd say that's DAMN good, and I'm hoping that April will be even better though to be fair so far it's been quite slow; only about $4.30CAD but I'll be having a big promotion near the end of the month and my last two promotions were met with pretty good spikes in sales that lasted several days so even though at this rate I might only have made $12.90 by the time my promotion starts, I should make up for it big-time in the last days of April. We'll see though, but my goal is $60CAD or more. While it's not looking good thus far, I do believe that can be achieved.

My 6th book will be finished within 2 weeks and I'm certain I'll be working on yet another right after that. I self-published a novelette, novella, and a novel in just the month of March alone so I'm nothing if not efficient at writing lol Quite efficient at keeping my writing neat, too. I wrote "Another One Please, to Dull the Pain" in less than 100 total hours, a novella of almost 29,000 words. No editing. Just wrote it and self-published it, boom. Someone who loves my Living amongst the Dead series read it even though I doubted he'd like it but he checked it out to see if I was good at non-zombie stuff, and we were both surprised to find that he very much enjoyed that one too. If I had it riddled with grammatical errors I'm sure he'd have spotted them. Anyways, I'm not about to compare myself to him but Mozart could write music so well that it required no revisions. As the quill inked the notes, they were essentially perfect. Well I highly doubt my books are perfect but I dare say I've been maintaining fewer than an error per 20,000 words. I'll give that book a read sometime though to see how it's doing grammatically. If it turns out I'm wrong and there's more than 1-2 mistakes, then I'll have to read/edit every book I write before publication. If there's only 1-2 mistakes in there though, and they're not bad, then I think I'll continue my first-draft publications. Like I said, less than 6 months into this self-publishing thing, so I'm still learning.

I always get on the same account because the payment has now failed?
And why have not they tried to pay again?
This is weird .

When did you order it? Orders show up first on the graph. Orders don't show up Sales on the Month-to-Date report until after the payment has cleared.

Do you realize that this is a forum for authors of ebooks, where we talk about publishing? If you just want to buy a gift card, go to the main Amazon page and put Gift Card into the search bar.

If you're an author and hoping to get paid by gift cards, sorry, it doesn't work that way.
