He asked for a sample, and I've sent him the translated version of Chapter 1 in PDF form.

On the 20th of March - After receiving the sample! - he posted:
You understand that nobody buy closed eyes.
How to know without seeing a sample.

How is one to react to that?

Elodie:

You really are a saint. Obviously, you're able to communicate to the OP in his own tongue, which we on the forum can't. I know, all too well, what it's like to have a client go berserk, particularly when it's in another language, or a garbled sort of Pidgin.

Good luck to you. Seriously.

I'm reminded of the old saying: No good deed goes unpunished!

UPDATE: I've just read the whole thread and I see Ralph got there first with the old saying!

If you don't all ready have it to hand, get the popcorn out guys, this is gonna be a good one.

I'm just quoting this in case you decide to chance it later.

Elodie, excuse me I am late today.
I saw the posts in the incoming mails at eight o'clock 🌃 when I was in my tent ,outside the wind was cold and I felt to tired to run to the petrol station for Wifi and quarrel with you in real time.

In the sky all the stars were shinning and I gave no importance.
Outlook Hotmail had received the mails without announcing me.I mean me too have problems with Internet.

The point is that since December 12 I hadn't seen one proof of your help until this week when you sent me  chapter One in PDF with three lines of your wording and the rest are my words unchanged.
This is what you sent and this is what I got and I didn't liked but my intention here isn't to criticize your style.Anyway with only the first three lines I couldn't know
how it can develop.

At least the little theatre I made here was productive because it shed light on each one positions.
You may say that you have been cheated in your confidence and rebuked by the O.P. and I will say that I got nothing for waiting three months.

But if the only important for you is the professional correctedness and the social acceptance, both virtues I don't have, I am sure you will enjoy the entire corporate solidarity with you, something I will never get.

The problem is my book is written in the first person:I am and I think and so on .It is not a technical manual about ink cartridges for printers needing less emotional involvement .
I think you don't like me and neither my book and this can't lead to a good result for the book.
You can't identify with the story from where you stand,of course this is my subjective perception and there is nothing you can do.

I am sure you didn't read the book ,you couldn't ,unable to get through.Page after page of charabia and nonsense discourage anyone from the reading. At this I have to say that I will not renounce and >facilitate the reading and the sales,I am not a cook.

I understand that I am the minor or the lesser of your problems and I celebrate to be so.

I know many people lack the sense of humour and can't pretend to appreciate the fun but I'm not saying this was funny .

Don't keep thinking about this bad experience ,we have a lot to do by separate.

Now I feel better seeing this ending and knowing that Spooky will never transfigure into a dog in pink pajamas with bunny ears. For me is finished but you can reply if you want .

Right, here we go.
First off, I told I wouldn't start in December.
I wasn't going to do anything with it until the new year as I was too busy.
So stop talking about December, it doesn't even exist in the schedule.
Secondly, I was doing this for free, in my own free time, and you can't dictate what I do and when in my free time.

But, you're freaking kidding me right????
I changed 3 sentences????

I changed every f-ing sentence to proper English.
You were scared I was going to take your tone away from the book.
I told you I would keep it as much in your voice as possible.
I even kept the derogatory statement about the Jews, all I did was tone it down a bit.
If it was up to me I would've scrapped that altogether.
It isn't written in my style - unless by 'my style' you mean proper English.

I also don't care about political correctness, for a fact, I voted Brexit and I hope they'll finally do something about that nonsense in the country as a whole.
Free speech is more important to me.
And social acceptance? From who? People I don't know?
I'm not social with anyone here.
I've also not told anyone not to buy your book, the book will do that for itself.

You keep saying you've been waiting for nothing.
What you were waiting for was a properly translated manuscript.
Something you didn't have, and now won't get from me.
You had nothing to lose, but this is now your loss.

Here's a list of other things you didn't have, and now won't have.
Properly structured sentences, with commas and full stops in their rightful place.
Grammatically correct sentences.
A copyright page.
Page breaks.
Speech marks.
Indents at the start of paragraphs.
Indents on speech.
You didn't have a TOC in the manuscript you've sent me, but you do know.
I'm fairly certain though, considering you don't know how to format, that it isn't clickable.
A decent blurb.
Proper keywords.

Good luck selling this beast.

Two observations:

1. The OP is almost assuredly using machine translation and does not read or write English. That, of course, is a huge disadvantage in trying to communciate here.
2. He or she somehow thinks that an offer of assistance is a contractual obligation of some sort that binds the person making the offer to his or her will.

The first is not the OP's fault, per se, but the second is indicative of someone with a faulty sense of entitlement. Taken together, it's probably best for all of us to just ignore the situation. And to Elodie, it was kind of you to make the offer, but you are right to walk away.

I don't like this. Why do I need to publish my thoughts and show my fears to everybody?
This blackboard is the last place I should want to write.

December was holidays but January, February and half Mars passed and I haven't seen one page.
To my knowledge you did nothing and I expect nothing.
Forget everything.
I am sorry for my bad manners ,for sure you deserved more consideration.
I do not know what arouse this disproportionate amount of aggression.Put this reaction into my post traumatic stress disorder account.I'm crazy, that's it.
I am afraid of being unjust with you, at the begining you showed the best intentions and now that this failed for unknown reasons I can't mistreat you.

For the strangers here I have to say that this is about a failed translation and nothing more happened.

But the main reason is that since December the book has changed a lot.
I told you that ahead of your work I was going to introduce changes ( but the needed cooperation suffered from a lack of collaboration) add, supress,(mostly add closing to achievement and perfection),and this is what I have been doing on the Spanish version.
Now that one is the book and the December document you received is a discarded draft.
And may be in the far future I will translate the book into English using one of those professional tools coming along with cheap quantum computers.

This gibberish is none of our concern.

Elodie,

You're very kind. I think he doesn't understand a lot of what we write, and I've been wondering if he understands how rude some of his statements sound.

I also wanted to say that I've missed you.

Thanks for the kind words Mary, and every1 else :)

I'm kinda back, but not fully.
Internet is still being wonky, but in a way that's good.
I used to spent way too much time reading this forum, at least now I have no choice but to carry on writing offline!
But from time to time, I'll be here to give some pointers :)

Elodie, good morning.today is a good day.The ban was lifted .I promised to be polite and I am back here.
As I said you before I'm happy to be here in good company.
I have to tell you one more thing.Yesterday I changed the cover for Spooky Spoke using the design once you sent me.The drawing of the sillouette of a cool dog,the title and my name in capitals.I hope you agree for the use of your nice drawing.
Yesterday I met a guy who did the conversion into Jpeg file and now is done, uploaded in KDP.
I sincerely repeat my apologies for what I did and thankyou for your help.

Firstater, as I said before, you were free to use the image however you wanted.
I didn't actually make the drawing myself, as mentioned previously, the image came from Pixabay, I just used it to create your cover :)

The Internet is a vast ocean and we are the raindrops that ripple its surface.

Thank you firstater. If only Lewis Carroll was still alive you could have written the sequel with him Alice Returns to Wonderland.
