I would like to italicize some words in my description for my first KDP title. Will HTML tags (e.g. <em>) work when displayed on the product page, or will they be rendered verbatim? Also, if I use them, will I need to use paragraph tags and breaks instead of relying on white space?

You can't use html in the product description on the Bookshelf. I get around this by putting book titles etc in single quotes, British style.

You may be able to do html on Author Central. This seems to vary from visit to visit.

As nj said, go to Author Central at

http://authorcentral.amazon.com

Can do this kind of formatting and other neat stuff besides to your book listings. Last I checked anyway, which wasn't that long ago.

Author Central is DEFINITELY the way to go!

I like to write the post up in Word (2003) and just Paste it into the the text field under the edit function of the book description.

I do not use anything except Bold and Italics

No bullet points or a numerical list!

Indidentally I use IE-8 and lately, the text entry areas of the Kdp Bookshelf have gotten "Slippery" like they are soapy -- if i click on an area, the text field will "squirt" up to the top and i will have to scroll back down to view the results

The Author central has crude text entry controls (like Bold etc) but if i click on the button to activate it, the text cursor will 'loose its place' and when I scroll back down and re establish the location, the bole button will Deactivate!

I can do a phrase in Word and make it bold and then copy that and paste it into the Author Central text entr field and after the text 'squirts up to the top, I can scroll back down and view the results (cumbersome but it works that way.

Any thoughts???

Oh and I might add that the changes that I made by pasting the Bold Word phrase into the Author Central text entry field became effective on my Book's Kindle Store Front Page in 12 minutes!

Pretty good!
