I published my first book, **Teenage Millionaire** three days ago and promoted it on Face Book.

Sold 10 copies. Clearly, I cant' keep hounding friends and family so what, from your experience, would be a good second step.

I would really appreciate it if anyone can let me know their thoughts on what activities do work and which are a waste of time.

Thanks in advance.

Your cover looks like non fiction. Your age group is teens. Your pitch is a summary instead of a compelling reason to read your book.

And reviews by friends and family are against the TOS.

She has answered your question. Rewrite your blurb and advertise. A new cover may be in order, if you have the money for it. You can do a free promotion, a kindle countdown or just run a bunch of ads on Facebook and the Zon. It all depends on your budget.

IMO you need to present it in the most compelling way possible before promoting it more. From my quick glance at your look inside your writing style is engaging but you need get people that far with an attention grabbing cover and an intriguing description.

You might try going to Shutterstock and searching for "Teenage boy with money" and see if you can't find a more interesting cover image without spending a lot. There are other stock photo sites too but I saw some on Shutterstock that might interest you.

I found this article helpful (at least as a starting point) for writing book descriptions:

When you complete a book there is the great feeling of satisfaction. You publish it and that really only makes that feeling grow more. Then sales come in and that bubble is popped 99% of the time because of unrealistic expectations. What you have experienced is very typical of a newly published Author.

My advice is, ask yourself why should someone buy your book? Out of all the options out there, what is special about yours?

Well first if people don't know about your book why would the buy it? You need an advertising strategy and you need to get real reviews on your book. Grandma Hellen may think you are the most talented person in the world but try to make sure she or any family members don't do reviews for you.
There are professional reviewers or reviewers who do it for a hobby who will give you a fair review. I'm not talking about the illegal fake review stuff. Amazon is going to delete those reviews left by friends and family. Do what I do and just tell them don't do it. Get real reviews.

To give you an idea, I ended up moving about 7,000 copies of my first novel in about a month. You would think, "man you must have had hundreds of reviews". Nope, I got about 10-20 from all of that. Getting reviews is not easy at all. But a few real reviews from real reviewers will get you sales.

You need a new book cover. It looks like a non-fiction book from the 1990s on how to play the stock market. It looks like very unprofessional. There are plenty of digital artists who sell better covers on websites giving you exclusive rights, that range from 50 bucks to several hundred. I would unpublish and go with one of these.

Submit your stuff to book bub, and other sites. They rarely approve anything but if they do you will get thousands of sales but also know it will cost you close to 1,000 dollars or a shade under depending on the genre. Some you pay without approval needed this will help sales as well.

Don't spend too much money however due to ROI. I would set the bar under 500.00 or so and see how you do. If you have zero money consider unpublishing your book, and waiting until you do.

Based on my communications and experiences with TOR.com and other big publishers. They have told me nearly word for word they will not touch something that has ever been published. Especially as an ebook. So even if your story is say very very good. They will never touch it, they want something fresh never before published. So if you feel you have a GEM try agents and publishers first.

Get a copyright. It is honestly better to have it and never use it than need it and you don't have one. Plenty of book thieves on here and even some shady publishers could grab your book if you don't have the rights and steal it from you. Some people think, "Well I published it that is proof enough."
But it isn't. You need that proof, and it could work like a lotto ticket someday if someone ever copies your stuff.

Movie Studios believe it or not are on the look out for many projects that have good ideas that could be produced pretty cheaply. Though it is a 1 in 10,000 shot. The more appealing your book looks and the description reads the better chance they will read it.

Good luck wish you the best

This is part of the second sentence in your book:

"a bowl of cereals with skimmed water"

Did you really mean to say that? Not "a bowl of cereal with skimmed milk"

Your book is not formatted correctly. No indents on paragraphs and the spacing is all off.

Maybe you should get the details down before publishing, then try to figure out how to sell your book.
