Kindle reader on my windows 10 phone, which i've used for years, popped up a registration screen and when i tried to register, it was rejected every time. I have purchased over 400 books from amazon.

When i called amazon tech support, they said that due to a contract issue, amazon had dropped registration for all windows and apple phones!!!

As the author of ten amazon e-books, this decision has a significant, and negative, impact on my readers.

I can't speak for Windows OS, but I just downloaded a recently purchased book to my iPhone 4.

This thread makes me want to ask the following question: Why would anyone want to read a book on the relatively tiny screen of a smartphone?
I read books on an iPad Mini tablet, and that's about as small as I would want to handle.

I do it all the time. The font is not hard to read and the phone is with me when my reader or tablet are often not.

I don't - heck I can barely see print on my desktop (thank goodness for reading glasses). But I do like to see what my own books will look like on my phone. And in a crunch, if my phone is all I have with me and I want to read something, I'll download it to my phone. But only if I have my glasses, of course.

I use my phone, when I'm traveling or don't have the iPad with me. As someone once said, the best camera is the one you have with you, and the same applies to e-readers.

And screen size doesn't matter, really--that's the advantage of reflowable books and the ability to change font sizes.

Because one is reading in coach flying to LA, or waiting in the Plex for the movie to begin.

In many ways it's better than a Fire tablet. I hold my iPhone 4 sideways in my right hand and turn the pages with my right thumb, so I can hold hands with Susan.

Interestingly enough, I had occasion yesterday to check a book on my iPhone 4, and I was told to delete it and download it again, and if that failed, to re-register the device. This was a book bought last year; as noted, I had no trouble opening one bought a few weeks ago.

So perhaps there is something going on, though not a wholesale repudiation of smartphones.

I once said the same thing and got roasted. Then i finally went smart phone and I can read on it just fine. It wouldn't be my first choice but it's not bad.My grandson calls me technology impaired.

Well, when I leave the house, I usually have my phone with me. I don't have my tablet with me. When I'm lying in bed at night, reading, it's easier to hold my phone than it is my tablet. And I'm assuming you know that you can adjust the size of the text on the screen, so the size of the screen makes no difference. My text is adjusted to about 150 words on the screen, so it's quite easy to read.
