I have a hardcover book by the same name (same contents) as my self-published digital book. The hardcover is 10 years old and there are numerous used copies around. If someone is selling my hardcover for 10 cents does that make it an average offer for my digital book?
Also, can I take the hardcover off Amazon? I didn't publish it and I'm certainly not getting any royalties from it now.

If you didn't publish the hardcover, you'd probably need to go back and read the contract. Old contracts used to have an out of print/reversion of rights to the author clause, but the contract would be what you agreed to.

I suspect people can sell used copies no matter what you do.

Have you considered doing an update of the book and making that available on Kindle?

Bill, the problem is my digital book IS an update on the hardcover. That's why I'm wondering if it's affecting my KDP sales by bring the price down to ten cents. The titles are the same. I could I suppose change the title on the digital book. Still, I'm wondering if a hardcover price affects the digital price?

People buying the book on Amazon are going to be paying $3.99 to have it shipped Media Mail, so their cost is $4.09.

The paperback and Kindle might be actually two distinct, although somewhat related markets. It seems the Kindle owners like the fact they don't have to carry a physical book with them to read on the go. Even they might buy a hardcover or a paperback of a special book they want to have at home. But, let's face it, even libraries have limited physical space. By the same token, not every reader has or will ever have Kindle or some other digital reader, at least for a while.

I would love to see an easy way to link between the two books. I have the Same problem. Ages ago I signed with a publisher for 101 Questions Answered on Becoming an Accountant. The publisher s now defunct and I have my rights back. I updated the book and called it 101 FAQs About Becoming an Accountant (the old publisher had tried to trademark the 101 Questions Answered phrase and I didn't want to cross that line). Now it seems like there is no way to let people know that an updated ebook version of the book is out.

Is there a way to have them linked and/or to let people know that an updated version is available?

Someone from Kindle emailed me and told me the hardcover version had no effect on my ebook sales. Nice to now. Thanks everyone for your input.
