The KDP tools for both Kindle and paperback are awesome. My regards to the engineers, product managers, designers and architects that put this application together.
First, I like how intuitive (at least for me) all the tools are.
Second, I like the navigational flow and layout
Third, (and most important) I like having the opportunity to publish with no risk to myself or the publisher.
If I have one criticism, it would be the community forum. It seems designed more for supporting the tools than providing support for the authors. I think that is a mistake.
There is one forum '*Voice of the Author*' whose guidelines are very ambiguous; which leads to much confusion among other members like myself. I've posted the guideline below to illustrate my point.

Members may contribute:

Posts that are topic-specific to the board and the thread.
Questions that challenge your peers.
Relevant knowledge, ideas, and experiences.
Ideas for new features.
Honest feedback about the things we are succeeding at and constructive criticism about the things we can improve.
Posts with external website links and links to images as long as they are relevant, helpful, or if they provide an example for discussion relating to the Kindle Direct Publishing project.

Posts announcing or requesting feedback on content created through Kindle Direct Publishing. Limit the promotion of your project to one thread.

.

The last guideline seems to indicated an openness that is sometimes disputed.
Are 'promotions of your project' allowed? The first sentence declares that you can 'announce' or 'request feedback on content created through KDP' while the second sentence refers to 'promotion' and 'project'. While these two different words could be referring to the same object that could also be referring to two different objects in two unrelated sentences.

When I think of 'content created through KDP' I think of cover creator, I don't think of my manuscript which I can create with either word or Adobe. When I think of 'project' I think of the ebook or paperback I am publishing. I need some clarification on these terms and also to suggest another feature which I call "Community Feedback" to the set of tools already available on KDP.
This would allow the publisher and author an option to present his unpublished manuscript to the KDP community when it is in draft mode.
I realize that this could present some issues with copyrights and disclosures so, one of two actions could occur if this option is selected.
  • The author waves his rights
  • Or community members agree to non disclosure terms before being allowed access to the manuscript.

I also belong to 3D printing community where such a tool exist for creating 3D models. I have to admit, I have never used it because I prefer to work alone, but I have been tempted to try it.
This is just my two cents. Take it or leave it, you folks are doing a great job and I appreciate what you are providing to us 'free of charge'
