In addition to the savings account, one also needs a SSN or Tax ID number.

QUESTIONS:
How safe is this information (SSN)? I am leary about putting that out there online.

Regarding a Tax ID number, can one use it from a valid business they own? The company is under the incorporated name XX, Inc., not my name, but I am listed as an owner on all of the paperwork for taxes and corporation, etc.

Please note that you don't need a 'Savings' account - a normal checking account will suffice. All tax information, including SSN, is safe on Amazon's secure server, with very few people having access to that information.

You can use your corporation's name for receiving payments, it doesn't have to be a personal account.

I don't understand why Amazon need my Social Security Number as it states right in the agreement that i have to pay income taxes, not Amazon. THe SSA tells us specifically that we only give the SSN to our employer, to the IRS, to SSA. Nobody else gets it. No one else has the right to demand it.

I too am extremely leery of giving you my SSN, no matter how safe you claim your system is. And to have a Tax ID, one needs to be incorporated. So again, why do you need it?

Any answer from DTP admin? I, too, am asking why must you have SS#? I want to publish and will provide my checking account #, but will not provide SS# for reasons already addressed in thread.

All-

They basically need it for tax reporting purposes. They need to report to the IRS all payments to you that are over $600. And it doesn't need to be an SSN, it can be an EIN if you are a business.

Thanks very much. Just wish I didn't have to supply the SS# electronically.

Ask if there's a fax number you can send it to.

Perhaps I'm living dangerously, but I have handed out my SSN dozens of time to set up affiliate programs and to do online banking.

(Not nearly as scary as carrying a Medicare card with you. There's my SSN for any pickpocket to score.... It's also my library card at the university library.)

Again, useful info; thanks a lot. Check out this paper regarding Amazon's personal info gathering vis-a-vis the SSA and two other personal data gathering agencies.
