Hi,
I am using Microsoft Word to format my book. I have done formatting and everything is OK except my Dedication page. I want it to be in middle of the page. I have tried with some blank lines at the top but failed I tried using page layout center but failed. When I upload it on Amazon it automatically set on top of the page. Is there any way that I can use to keep my Dedication page center?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, but trust me on this: you don't want to go there. And on this: you don't want it halfway down the page, with your level of expertise, because what's halfway down the page depends on what Kindle, Fire, or app the reader is using, and whether he's holding it in landscape or portrait mode.

Set a paragraph style in your word processor document or (better) html file. Give it a margin-top of 1 em, 2 ems, 3 ems, but no more than that, or you may end by pushing it onto the next page. (An em is about one line.)

Just hitting the Enter key does nothing to increase the spacing. Similarly, just hitting the space-bar does nothing to increase the space between words. That's why Word or another word processor is really a poor way to try to format an ebook.

Hi Notjohn,
Thank you so much for your comment with clarification. So which program I can use to make it perfect? Which program formatting can keep it the middle of the page? I can try those program because even I do not know which program going to work for it I have the skill to catch new program so if you just help with information that will be good enough.

Thank you.

Use html and build your book in Sigil. You will also need the help of someone really skilled in formatting. I think this question was discussed on the MobileRead Sigil forum a month or so ago.

Or build a fixed-format book, for example by using Kindle Textbook Creator. Then you can put anything anywhere. The downside is that not everyone will be able to read your book, because not all Kindles and apps display fixed format books.

I wouldn't be too pedantic about insisting that you want your dedication display centered on your page because you could be inviting alot more formatting hell for yourself if you do this -- especially if it's your first time uploading to KDP.

As Notjohn has said you could use Amazon's Kindle Text Book Creator for the task. But if it were me -- I would probably use the newer Kindle Create app from amazon which allows you to load a Word doc(instead of a PDF file). It also allows you to do more text formatting in the app itself. And if you do choose to use either of these apps -- then you should also be sure to acquaint yourself with the downsides of using them. With eyes wide open, in other words.

Why not try my free Sigil plugins now available on MobileRead?

OpenDocHTMLImport - converts ODT HTML(Writer) docs directly to epub.

GoogleZipImport - converts Google Doc HTML directly to epub format.

You can download all these free plugins from The Sigil Plugin Index on the MR Forum
