We decided to push our book out for free this weekend, and I have to say I am completely impressed with the results. The book jumped 301 downloads in one day, pushing up to #14 in the post apocalyptic category, and #28 in horror.

If anyone is interested in checking out while it's free we would love to see some solid reviews on it. It is free today and tomorrow.

What is a solid review? Five stars full of praise? One star full of criticism?

A "solid review" is one that is honest and informative. If someone loves it and wants to give it five stars that is fantastic, we would love to know why. If someone thinks its crap and gives it one star, that is cool too, we just want to know why.
We are not farming for 5 stars, we're looking for honest feedback.

The time for feedback is before you publish. Reviews are not feedback, neither are reviews posted for your benefit. The only other thing to mention is that you should not be here flogging your books or begging for reviews.

First, reviews are one of the best forms of feedback. Hearing what people like or don't like about a book is something that should be looked at throughout the life of the book, not just prior to publishing.
Second, I was not "begging" for reviews, I answered a question. And in case you just happened to not read the other replies it was already established that I should not have posted this here. So climb down off that angsty high horse of yours and move on.

Your book indicates that 14697 is your position . . . .post apocalypse.
Have I got this wrong, or is somebody telling porky pies?

The FREE list is separate from the PAID list.

While a book is spending time on the FREE list, it doesn't get any sales and that has a detrimental effect on the PAID list when it reverts back. The only thing that can counter the drop in rank is a lot of borrows. IIRC it's a ratio of 5 borrows to give the rank boost of 1 when it switches back to PAID but it's been a while since I've seen that post so I could be remembering incorrectly.

On the Kindle free list it ended in #14 for post apocalypse, back on the Kindle paid list now at #4508.
The #14697 you are referring to is the paperback version's position.

Yep, I snagged a free copy... haven't read it yet, but I what I read in the Look Inside was interesting. Still gotta finish my own book before reading others... sigh... getting twitchy with lack of reading...
