It means customers are returning your books for refunds. Books returned at the beginning of a month, when there no compensating sales, often result in negative balances.

May be. But in month to date royalty report shows 10 net sales. Further customers can return till seven days. If I sold 2 books (for example) in last seven days and two refunds, how come it shows negative royalty. It must show zero!

IF you have any paperbacks at CreateSpace and if you have it marked to sell not only at retail, but to other stores, AND if you lowered the price prior to a refund, it would show negative.

IF you are talking about sales at the Kindle site, contact Customer Service below at Contact Us. It could be where one part of the computer system has not caught up with another.

You posted this on Sep 6, so there were less than seven days in the month! (If you're not using the month-to-date report, you should be.) Anyhow, I'm skeptical that one can't return a book on the eighth day. What if one didn't OPEN it until the second week, and found it was blank or rubbish? Amazon is on the side of the customer.

I've always figured 2 percent returns. But oddly, in July, August, and so far in September, I've had none.

Good luck! -- NJ

The Indian month-to-date report is seriously fubared. No timeline on resolution from KDP Support as yet.
