Hey there, sooo, just to make it quick, I published a Fantasy novel (german) as Print (createspace) and Ebook (kdp). At the moment I offer the ebook for 3.99 (not yet sure of the price though). And now I have read somewhere that people actually recommend publishing a free chapter ebook, apperently someting 60 out of 100 top selling series offer some sort of free stuff). And here are my two questions:

Does this make sense?

Aaaand, is this even possible?

If the two questions above are answered with "yes", then the idea would be the following.
I take the first chapter of the already published novel, create a new ebook and add at the front or at the end of the original title a "free chapter" or "reading sample" or something simmilar, and then? Is there a way to make it available for free?

(honestly, even typing "free" makes me cringe, but if it works out, and if it is just one chapter, I guess I would try it)

or would it make sense, to take two chapters and offer it for 0.99 - at least that's the option, that sounds even more stupid, why would someone buy 2 chapters for 0.99 if one can get the full book for 3.99?

Thanks for your answers!

You can't list a book as free on Amazon. Why would anyone want to buy an incomplete book?

Well, the first 10% of your book is already available free through the Look Inside.

Probably better would be to write a short story set in the same universe, but a standalone (complete) story, and put that up for 99 cents. At the end have the first chapter of your novel. Good luck!
