Have published a few books with equations but quality is generally poor. After researching the problem IMHO documents created in LaTeX are far superior to anything else. Is there any reason why a LaTeX to Kindle/eBook importer cannot be provided as well as epub and HTML? With the financial resources available to Amazon this should not be an insuperable problem. Most people who write technical books will be able to acquire the basics of LaTeX in a few days, many will even know it now. From Amazon's point having more and better quality eBooks will generate higher revenue, so in business terms may be a sound investment.

Rather than ask people who have no connection to KDP wouldn't it make more sense to ask the KDP boffins directly? Use the Contact Us button at the bottom of the page. Since you've researched the topic extensively, perhaps you could tell them how to make it work in the context of a reflowable e-book. Good luck.

You're assuming that it's simply because there's no magic LaTEX importer. That's not the issue. The source file--whether it's perceptually inferior or superior--is utterly irrelevant.

The issue is, there is no precise or perfect control, in eBooks, over vertical and horizontal positioning of characters and elements in an eBook. Period. The reason that you think that LaTEX is so superior is because like every other print medium, you can create correct equations. But just imagine what that would be like, if you couldn't control the positions of a number or numbers, in ratios or calculations. Wouldn't be so freaking great, would it?

Well, that's the same problem faced by ePUB and MOBI. No precise control, so the creation of a simple ratio, for example, is impossible. That's why there's no exporter, and why your ePUB didn't come out so great. That's why experienced eBook makers use images for MOBI for any mathematical or scientific equations.

You're right Hitch.
Only need to convert formula in image.
Two ways:
-using a graphic editor and export image
-using Word or Libre Office and make a screenshot
