Direct Deposit Payment less than Royalty amount in report

The royalty payment listed in the royalty report is more than the amount that was actually deposited in my account. It's just for one book and the amount was less than a dollar difference 72 cents. But that will amount to a lot more if a considerable number of books are sold. Has anyone else had this problem?

I appreciate a response from JM that invites me to supply more info so that this question might be answered.

1. link to my book on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Looking-Out-Up-Reflections-Deacons-ebook/dp/B01LG4D0RI/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1505594050&sr=1-1&keywords=Middlefield+Federated+Church

2. The date of the sale was 8/5/17 it was one sale of an e-book. The book sold for the $16.00. The royalty payment was $5.60 (as listed on the report I generated)

3. The date of the royalty payment by direct deposit to my account was 8/29/17. Amount of direct deposit was $4.88

4. The sale was made in the United States (as far as I can tell)

Hi,

You need to provide more information before anyone can answer this or speculate on an answer.

First, a link to your book on Amazon would help, allowing people to take a look and see what might be going on. Also, provide the date of sale, date of royalty payment, country or countries in which you made the sale. (Or sales. It's unclear whether you are saying you made a single sale or that you have only a single book up or both - that you made one sale of the only book you have published.)

Seriously? Someone reported the OP's thread-starting post as abuse/spam, so it's been removed till the mods restore it?

Guess I should have quoted it rather than simply responded.

I replied at length tonight. The mod-bot, in all its ineptitude, has sent the reply to mod-bot purgatory.

It may show up here in a few hours, or days, or it may not. I hope it does. You can never tell with the mod-bot. It dances to a drummer no one - or thing - has ever head before.

Sharon--

You sold a book in August, but will be paid for the August sale at the end of October.

Your end of August royalty payment was for something you sold in June. Read the thread on this forum, "Know your Payments." It will help you.

The excel report you generate on-the-fly is supposed to give you a trend. The "prior month" report (the August one came out Sept. 15) is the only really accurate summing up of your August earnings.

By the way, pricing an ebook at $16 makes no sense. You can only get 35% royalties. So unless your ebook is very large (lots of images), price at $9.99, get 70% royalties, and earn more for each sale. (In fact you would probably get more sales at $4.99 but that's a separate question.)

My guess for why the original post went off to mod-land was because of the links.

Thank you for your reply.

I guess I haven't asked my question correctly, because I am getting replies about the TIMING of the payment and not the AMOUNT. My question was why does it indicate on all reports that the royalty payment is $5.60 for the book and only $4.88 was deposited in my account?

As far as the cost of book. I charged the same for e-book and print book to encourage people to buy the print book. I published the book as a fundraiser for the church I attended. When I order copies of the book and the church sells them for $16.00 the church receives all monies except for what I am charged by Amazon to print the book on demand. I pay all shipping charges so the church earns almost $11.00/ book. Since the majority of the sales of the book is for the printed copy in the area that I live, I was not so concerned about the ebook sales. Most of the people who purchased the book are either members of the church or friends or family of members who are interested in print copies. The e-book sales are really only icing on the cake for the church since I didn't think there would be much demand for the book outside of the immediate area of the church.

Thanks again for your response.

I received an email from KDP support that has answered my question! The direct deposit of $4.88 to my account was not for the August 22, 2017 ebook sale that I assumed it was for. It was from a sale of over a year ago (2016) that had not been deposited because of some kind of glitch. The royalty for that sale ($4.88) matched the direct deposit amount ($4.88). I still don't understand why the royalty amounts for one book from one year to the next are different (both books were sold in the United States) but I'm not really concerned about that. I just want my records and the records the KDP are publishing to be the same. Thanks for everyone's response.

The reason I was so confused was because the direct deposit was for something sold in August of 2016. Some kind of glitch delayed the direct deposit of this amount as well as notification to me of the problem. Because it was from over a year ago, I kept misreading the year in the reply I recently received from KDP support.

Thanks again.

Here is the reply I received this morning from KDP Support re: my deleted post. Just plain piss-poor policy and service:

Good day {JM14},

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.
First and foremost we would like to offer our apologies that your post was moderated. I have checked via the back-end and it appears that your post on the thread was deleted in error. I have scoured the thread and what you stated was correct when you discussed how you were attempting to assist the OP in determining what the problem related to her payments were.

I'm certain that you are aware of the fact that there have been instances where we have randomly created accounts which flood our forums with irrelevant spam posts and compromise the user experience. In an attempt to counteract this, we have employed certain measures like keyword triggers which alerts our system to reject certain posts and what must have happened here is that yours may have been incorrectly categorized.

I will ask that you please not be discouraged by this instance and continue to assist more inexperienced authors when they may need it. Active and experienced members such as yourself are considered to be integral to the KDP ecosystem and though we don't outright say so, we appreciate your participation.

Please have a great day and let us know if you require anything further.

In any event, I'm glad that Cdale's reply to you along with your own inquiries have straightened this out for you.

I'm now on my way to the airport for an out-of-town funeral this weekend and will be silent for the next few days. Also, at this point, I don't think I'll be spending much more time composing replies of length, in general, trying to help, not with this level of inept moderation.

I wish you every success.
