If I were to take the horseshoes and hand grenades approach which obviously my small mind is only capable of, $200 per 50,000 KENP would give people a rough idea of what they may or may not make. That seems to be what everyone wants to know. Again these are just my ramblings and may not reflect reality. Lunch was good, math was bad :(

Close enough. For authors who have millions of KENP read each month (no, that's not me), a difference in the third or even fourth significant figure can make a huge difference in their paycheck :)

In May, I had 643K pages read, and was guesstimating at April's 0.0046. Imagine my surprise when it came through at 0.00433. Significant drop.

Oh well. My ebook sales more than made up for it. Still, a good solid thumping of about $175. Not a huge number, but that's a utility bill. :/

I like the setting on the new Book Report* where you can have it automatically use a lower estimate for KENP than the previous month :)

What do you make with kindle pages???
Literally nothing after you pay for expenses and editing and covers and formatting. It is slave labor. You don't even get room and board.
Have fun writing FOR NOTHING.
Eventually, you may cover your expenses. BUT you will never get paid for your time at even minimum wage. And, you have to pay to advertise to try to recover your expenses. Horror stories abound. Best of luck. To put injury upon insult you have to pay to advertise on Amazon also. I guess you might say that we writers have been underwriting Bezos buying Whole Foods.
Yes, it is 0.0042 per page and they will not disclose what categories of books get the $25,000 bonuses or any of them.
So you literally may be subsidizing pornographic romance, nonfiction opinion books, diet books, rip-off low-quality books dictated in one week--but evidently popular with some segment of society. Your category may be earning no bonuses and your money being donated to people who know how to play the system. Look into the fraud that has been uncovered. Imagine the fraud that is not uncovered. The whole system is corrupt, not transparent, and a five dimensional chess game for those who care to compete.
BUT THE KEY IS THAT THERE IS NO OTHER GAME IN TOWN. Amazon controls 85% of the book market. Of course data differs, but what is 5% more or less. Soooo take it on the chin and smile like the rest of us. Five dimensional chess is challenging. Jump in and join the fun.

Sadly, the per page payout seems to be drifting down. When KENP first started the number was closer to 0.005... now it looks like less than 0.004 for the US... that's more than a 20% cut in royalties and we have zero control other than to opt out. I wish Amazon would guarantee a fixed rate per market.

Actually the Aug calculation bounced back up to approx. 0.0042. The fund has not yet dropped below 0.004 though it was looking like it could prior to the KENP 3.0 release. The rate is dependent on the total pages read so there is no real way to fix it. Logic dictates that if the rate drops then more pages were read overall (since the fund continues to grow) therefore you "should" be able to capitalize on the higher volume to increase your own page read count and keep our overall income approximately the same.

At .0042 per page my fantasy novel earns 2.89 for a full read, not far off the sale royalty on that particular book so, at present, the system still seems to be a legitimate option.

Assuming all page reads are counted. (And that's only the US rate; try having a healthy royalty from India suddenly slashed to 1/4 the original rate, with no option to opt out of each marketplace selectively.)

However, the invisible effect of a declining payout rate is that you have to write longer books to make the same amount of money you did a few months ago. IOW, you're working more hours for less pay.

hello

is India an actual location, or just pretend?

how is it that a billion people, given the world of options, can unilaterally and completely avoid purchasing my ebooks

I'm thinking they are imaginary

or window dressing

perhaps me idiot books are too risky, for these folks who live nearby girls who cover their hair

as if we care

and China--those kids remain well hidden--almost as bad as N Korean prisoners (the populace)
