Royalties earned vs royalties paid

I just published my first ebook so my numbers are small.
On my reports dashboard it says I've earned about $40 in ebook royalties from US sales but my royalties paid per "generate report" indicate less than $2. Does this mean I earned only $2?

There is ORDERS, SALES and then what you are paid.
It sounds like you are looking at the 3rd, that meaning that money has been sent to you.
Sales in July were paid on Sept 29.
Aug sales will be paid on Oct 29.

Actually no. I just published on September 17. On the reports dashboard at the bottom it has a box with"royalties earned". When I click "generate report" it says royalties paid. My book is listed at $9.99. I sold 6 at that price. I'm supposed to earn $6 and some change for every one sold. The royalties earned box confirms that, showing an amount of $40 and change.

When I go to the generate report button, that is where it tells me I've got "paid royalties" of something like $1.89 or thereabouts. I am not due to be paid until November for my September sales. So what is this $1.89 number?

I have no idea, but I wouldn't worry about it. The reports generated on-the-fly are seat of the pants estimates. Sounds like a glitch to me,

If you earned $40 in royalties in September, you will be paid $40 at the end of November, assuming you have EFT/direct deposit.

The only report that really matters is the prior-month report. And don't believe that until the 15th (that is, the October 15th prior-month report will show the final audited figures for September, the amounts for which you'll be paid at the end of November). Good luck!

Btw, you're lucky to have sold 6 ebooks at $9.99. You might sell a lot more if you dropped the price. Unless it's non-fiction and you're a recognized expert, or unless it's got hundreds and hundreds of pages, you might sell more than twice as many at $4.99.

The report that you download (Excel spreadsheet) has multiple "tabs": the first one you see is for e-book royalties. Check the others. Since you're selling at $9, I assume this is a paperback; there should be a separate tab for paperback royalties.

I have an awful feeling that the OP has priced her ebook at $9. What loyal friends he/she must have!

@OP: ebook prices are heading to zero. The closer to zero you get, the more you will sell. Personally, I price my books $2.99 to $7.95 for digital, but they are mostly non-fiction, and price does not seem to affect non-fiction as much as it does fiction, especially genre fiction. You are competing here with a million desperate people from all over the world.

(Don't trust KDP to publish a print edition. Don't trust CreateSpace to publish an ebook.)

Good luck! -- NJ
