Uploaded my cover for my new POD book. Received this issue message from Amazon: "The barcode should not overlap text, other barcode boxes, or other important elements." My cover designer did insert a white box (following Kindle specs) on the back cover, and this is where the misalignment/overlap occurs. Question is: Can I upload a cover without the empty white box on the back cover? That way, the Amazon-inserted barcode box would not compete. Help...?
As with so many aspects of paperback publishing, you would not have this problem with CreateSpace, where if you use your own bar code, CS will not overprint it.
The usual place for the bar code is the lower right of the back cover, so don't put anything important there. But I wouldn't put a white space there, either, because with KDP Print's automagical system, you may not hit it precisely.
(Don't trust KDP to publish a print edition. Don't trust CreateSpace to publish an ebook.)
The empty white box is what it's overlapping. They need to be a little clearer on that. You need to leave space for the bar code, but you should just leave that part of the cover the same as the rest. They'll add both bar code and box. If you put the box there yourself, you'll get this error.
Don't put anything where the barcode should be. A professional book designer knowing which platform you're publishing on would have known better. It's right in the instructions from KDP-Print and CreateSpace.
