Hi - I've written some gamebooks of the Choose Your Own Adventure style - Does anyone now how I go about inserting links in the text so that when clicked they jump to the next section that I specify? IE: 'If you want to go outside, _CLICK HERE_' and the click takes you to a passage elsewhere in the book.

Is it a case of using hyperlinks or the cross reference tool in Word? I'm using open office but can probably figure it out if you guys give us a hint!

Cheers,

Dan

I would use hyperlinks, and I suspect that that's what Word uses for cross-referencing.

Be aware that jumping about in a book might get you into trouble on KDP Select. Amazon doesn't like people who link to the back of the book in the first page of the book, which for a time was a favorite way to scam the Kindle Unlimited pages-read.

(Don't trust KDP to publish a print edition. Don't trust CreateSpace to publish an ebook.)

Good luck! -- NJ

Same style book and similar issue. The cross reference in word survived conversion in Calibre to MOBI, EPUB and PDF. Loading into KDP and the links now don't work. Is it a disabled feature because of the KU scamming? Definitely not looking to scam - most readers will stop at the end of the story line they want which will cost me pages, not gain me pages.

How do you know that "the links now don't work"? Do you mean, in Previewer online? Or Previewer for the desktop? If the latter, do you mean Previewer 3.15 or 2.94? Did you download the Preview MOBI, and put it on an actual device, or even in desktop Previewer?
