Is there some rule against putting direct links to my book's pages in Facebook ads? Someone just told me this, but I can't really believe it...how would that make sense?

There is no rule against this (or if there is, everyone's been using FB wrong all these years).

However, I have a theory - this is just a theory, mind you - that FB's mysterious algorithms recognize links to the Zon and to people's blogs, and downgrades their visibility in order to force people with pages to pay for FB ads. I say this because I have 1,500+ followers on my blog's FB page, and my other posts get hundreds of views and clicks and likes. Those posts of mine that link to my books on Amazon, or to my blog, get less than a handful, unless a post of mine goes viral (which is rare and unpredictable. Like someone really loves my mint chocolate mousse recipe and it suddenly gets shared by a dozen high-profile bloggers).
