AMS click through rate?

Hi all, I'm running an AMS ad for the first time, and am wondering what people have found is a normal click through rate?

I know there have been some reporting issues (that doesn't seem to the be a problem with mine, though), and a search of the forum tells me there was recently a flood of ads because of credits, so I realize now the timing of my ad might not be great. I wanted to test it out, though, since Christmas is coming and that's a good time for some of my books, so I figured I'd trial an ad.

I've had about 11,500 impressions, 10 clicks, and 0 sales according to the AMS ad dashboard. This seems rather abysmal, but it is normal? This book is decently popular on its own for its genre (currently in the top 100 in 3 genres), has had several, organic 5 star reviews, and my ad preview, cover, and Look Inside all seem good.

I'm bidding at $0.25 on some keywords, and have gotten 2K+ impressions on a few of those in the last two days, and am upping some others that are getting low impressions, but it's still the click rate that seems super low.

It varies depending on keyword and ad but I aim for keywords with a click ration of 1 per 400-500. The conversion that really matters is click to sale.

For display ads, I usually see a click rate of 1 in 100 to 1 in 300.

For "sponsored" ads--those in the carousels--it's very consistent at 1 in a 1000. Almost like someone is watching the customers and when 1000 impressions have gone by, they tap one customer on the shoulder and say, "Psst. Click that icon."

The sale to click ratio is, as stated, the important thing.

All my campaigns are paused now, but a quick glance at the dashboard shows rates varying from 1 in 200 to 1 in 1,200 for sponsored products. I don't use product display ads much anymore, but those run around 1 in 1,000 as well.

As others said, what really matters is the conversion rate; more specifically, the ACoS. I used to count anything under 30% as successful, but as the system has become saturated, I'm happy with 50% (for books with a 70% royalty).

Thanks, everyone. Of course I realize the most important thing is the click to sales ratio, but I think I need more clicks to get those sales ;)

18,569 impressions, 22 clicks, and $4.23 later, and still no sales from the ads. I might try a product display ad next vs the sponsored one...

As it is, though, based on my ranking and the number of sales, I'm guessing that the particular genre isn't a major selling market right now. I've only had a couple of sales of the book in the last few days (apparently not related to my ams ad), and yet I'm ranking decently high in my genres. Either that, or those in the top 20 are far outselling everyone else.

I'll keep tinkering with bids and keywords and see what happens... Hopefully closer to Christmas the ads will pay off.

Ah, ok, there is some delay on sales reporting, while impressions and clicks are up to date. Two sales that I made earlier this month can, I think, now be attributed to the ad. Unless those are new sales and are not showing up on my kdp reports...

I have the same problem. I'm now counting four not showing on final sales.
