When you post a book to KDP, you’re asked to name the publisher. You can insert any name you want and, in effect, create your own publishing company.

When you publish a paperback counterpart on Create Space, there seems to be no similar option. The publisher is identified as "Create Space."

How can you publish a title on KDP and Create Space simultaneously, under the same imprint or “publisher,” one of your own choosing?

Thanks,
John

If you provide your own ISBN, you list the publisher name associated with it.

If you use CS or KDP BETA's free ISBN, they are the publisher on record.

In the US you go to Bowker and buy one. I think it costs about $125, less if you buy in bulk. I've always just gone with the free one CS assigns.

The publisher of books using the "free" CS ISBN is always listed as Createspace Independent Publishing Platform.

Similarly, any book using the "free" KDP Print ISBN is listed as Independently published, which to my eye is the kiss of death.

If you buy your ISBNs, you can use any imprint you want, within reason (not Oxford University Press, for example).

Ebooks can be attributed to any imprint you like (again, within reason).

(Don't trust KDP to publish a print edition. Don't trust CreateSpace to publish an ebook.)

Good luck! -- NJ

Thanks, NJ. I'm spreading the gospel re: Create Space for print, KDP for E.
