A few years ago my father wrote his autobiography.Unfortunately he is in seriously ill health but has given me consent to see if I can get it published online. My question is can I do this via my own account? And can i continue to manage his autobiography in the future? Its not going to be a best seller, more of a legacy and hopefully of historical value.
Yes, certainly. You will set up your account, but under Contributors you wold name your father as Author (and yourself as Editor if that's appropriate). Amazon will regard it as a pen name, but that's not important. You can even set up an Author Central page using his name.
The income will be credited and taxed to you, but I'm sure you can handle that between yourselves.
You never know what will catch people's interest. And if it does start to take off, then you can set yourself up as a small business and pay your father accordingly. It takes 90 days before Amazon sends you any money so you'll have time to see how it is going and whether you need to bother doing that or not.
You should also make sure that your father includes the rights to the book to you in his will, particulary given his health. It can be done very simply with just a handwritten note to you as long as it includes his signature, the date and is in his own handwriting. If he's not able to do that, consult a hospital social worker for assistance.
