Kindle Creator-made file not displaying properly

Hi all,

I made a file with Kindle Creator from a .doc document and uploaded it successfully. The file passed inspection and is now live. I received a complaint from a user about how it is not displaying properly in iPad. I have not been able to recreate this problem in the Previewer. See the image below for a screenshot of the issue. What is the solution?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Joe:

Well....that's a doozy. Firstly, before I speak to the oddball clumps of text that you have appearing in odd places--did you deliberately create a book with no first-line indents, in new paragraphs, and no spaces between paragraphs, so that people can't tell where one paragraph leaves off and the next begins? If you did, I'd strongly--strongly--urge you to fix that, ASAP, and upload a revised copy that allows your readers to know where each paragraph begins/ends. On small devices, you can end up with what looks like a wall of text, where there was intended to be 7-12 paragraphs or more.

Secondly--honestly, just from the image, I can't quite tell what you've done, but it appears as though you inadvertently used columns, or perhaps a two-column/cell table, or the like. Possibly, maybe, a tab, mid-sentence, that caused that weirdness?

You said you used a .doc file. Did you use your own Styles/Headings, or did you use the ones in KC? Did you clear ALL the styles, before you started restyling the file for the conversion, or did you use the KC styles and headings over your existing?

I am sorry for your troubles, not least because I was beginning to think that there was some value in Kindle Create. I hope that Hitch can put you on the track to a solution. Meanwhile, let me point out that there is no "inspection" in the sense you have used here. Amazon will publish the most awful rubbish, both in quality of the content and quality of the formatting. And there's really no preview for Apple OS. The best we can do is convert a file and load it to an iPad through iTunes, the world's most awful software. As for a solution, let's hope Hitch can pull something out of her hat, because the only thing I can suggest is to stop using Kindle Create.

(Was it the KC add-in for Word, or the stand-alone template/platform/whatever?)

(Don't trust KDP to publish a print edition. Don't trust CreateSpace to publish an ebook. Each does one thing well and the other thing poorly.)

Good luck! -- NJ

Your problem description is somewhat confusing.and lacking in proper detail. So some questions for you:

*Which Kindle app did you specifically use? Was it Kindle Create or Kindle Text Book Creator or one of the other Kindle apps??

*Did you convert a PDF or a Word doc ?

*Did your ebook look OK in the Kindle Previewer app?

*When you created you doc in Word, did you deliberately create two columns per page?

To be honest with you, it looks like you have selected a double page view using Kindle Kids Book Creator. You do not have this facility on either Kindle Create or Kindle Text Book Creator. Give us more information about your problem and please be more specific.

Why not try my free Sigil plugins now available on MobileRead?

OpenDocHTMLImport - converts ODT HTML(Writer) docs directly to epub.

NormalizeScrivEpub - reformats, finishes off and normalizes Scrivener-generated epubs

LogicalTOCStyler - allows users to easily style the Logical TOC(Device TOC) as they prefer

You can download all these free plugins from The Sigil Plugin Index on the MR Forum
